HOURLY - SITE MAINTENANCE WORKER LOCATION: SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT, SOLID WASTE OPERATIONS AND ENGINEERING SECTION, VARIOUS LOCATIONS (PHMRF, DART, SGTS)

To perform a variety of general maintenance using common hand tools and operating light-load, mobile equipment including a forklift and a compact wheel-loader.JOB SUMMARY:
The duties typically assigned involve performing any combination of site maintenance or equipment operations tasks such as using hand tools and operating small engine-powered equipment to perform refuse materials sorting, site custodial projects, and other duties involving manual labor; pressure washing the outside of a facility; loading and distributing refuse or recyclable materials using a forklift or other similar wheeled equipment in close proximity to others; assisting with maintenance of site structures and equipment; picking up litter and removing debris; may operate a motor sweeper or ride-along mower on and adjacent to the site; relieving Weighscale Operators by performing scale transactions and handling money; relieving Utility Equipment Operators by operating an excavator and/or loader; may operate a boom lift; and perform related duties as required. The current vacancy is at the Puente Hills Materials Recovery Facility.
Work hours and rotating shifts may vary: Candidate may be placed on a day, swing, or graveyard shift depending on site needs.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A valid California Class C driver license for positions performing on-the-job-driving. A valid California Class B driver license may be required to operate a motor sweeper on public streets adjacent to the site. No specific educational level or experience is required.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Include work experience in a landfill or refuse facility performing general labor, basic maintenance, weighing loads, collecting payments, sorting recyclables, loading shipping containers, and operating equipment such as baler, excavator, loader or boom lift. NOTE:
The individual(s) recommended for promotion will be subject to criminal records/fingerprint checks and a review of DMV records for moving violations, chargeable accidents or more serious charges.EXAMPLES OF ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The competitive selection process may cover the knowledge of : A variety of tools and equipment used to accomplish maintenance tasks at a Districts' facility; safe work practices; procedures and practices pertaining to site equipment operations and work routines. The ability to : Identify and use various hand tools; operate a variety of mobile equipment, such as a forklift, small front loader; excavator, and loader; perform manual labor; operate computers and software used in weigh scale operations; complete tasks independently with basic instructions; understand verbal instructions; work independently and accomplish maintenance and operations assignment with minimal direction and oversightADDITIONAL INFORMATION
