ITD consists of four (4) operational Divisions: Administration; Applications & Customer Support; Infrastructure & Operations; and Information Security. The ITD Infrastructure & Operations Division provides foundational technology and capabilities essential for County's business needs. It keeps the County connected by operating the County's critical technology framework and designing resilient and competitive solutions. Over the last few years, the Division completed a significant number of enterprise projects which include the deployment of Mitel MX-ONE VoIP system, Zoom and Teams video solutions, software-defined network using Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), self-managed Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network, and Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).

The Division seeks a seasoned information technology professional for the Systems & Operations team, responsible for County-wide IT systems and operations, including but not limited to: servers, systems, storage, data backup and restore; Data Center operations; and technology support for County departments. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, other departments, vendors, and IT personnel to provide highly complex technical support and expertise for difficult technical system problems and/or needs.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a highly diversified and complex technology environment, and possess a strong technical background that includes physical and virtual environments, and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solutions. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, and will have extensive hands-on experience and knowledge in installing, configuring, and maintaining on-premise and Cloud-based servers, operating systems, storage, data backup and restore, data center operations, and related security fundamentals and practices .

The Eligible List established by this recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis.

Examples of Duties
Paramount duties include:
  • Consults with clients, other departments, departmental staff, vendors, and technical support personnel to determine customer computer application platform hosting needs and functions; propose application platform configurations to meet customer needs; determine operating procedures and systems design to ensure system performance meets user requirements; clarify and resolve complex application technical operational and management issues/needs.
  • Performs advanced, difficult and complex work to independently analyze system operational requirements; builds utilities, tools, and routines to meet those requirements; resolves single-event issues; and ensures inter-product compatibility.
  • Participates in complex business analysis projects; prepares process and data flow maps with recommended optimizations.
  • Resolves difficult work orders and requests for services pertaining to the administration and maintenance of department information systems.
  • Provides complex technical support and expertise to evaluate and recommend a resolution of highly complex technical system problems.
  • Serves as a technical resource and functional leader in areas of expertise.
  • Recommends automation hardware, peripherals, and software necessary to implement complex system designs.
  • Installs, tests, and updates system software and departmentally developed or third-party application software products for delivery over proprietary, local, and wide area computer networks.
  • Monitors and analyzes application platform processor and storage capacity utilization; prepares plans and recommendations for capacity modifications to meet changing utilization trends.
  • Monitors systems and responds immediately to security threats and issues; performs vulnerability and risk/threat analyses; install updates and security patches and ensure antivirus software is current.
  • Keeps abreast in current application platform developments, system technology, and trends.
  • May provide coverage for the service desk and on-call service after scheduled work hours.

Manage multi-faceted projects; Plan, coordinate, train, and review the work of others; Write clear and concise systems specifications, bid proposals, operating and training manuals, and/or technical standards and documentation; Understand the impact of organizational, administrative, and personnel aspect of new information systems designs; Read, understand, interpret, and apply complex technical manual, computer dumps, memory displays, charts, and graphs; Maintain strict confidentiality of data and information processed; Deal tactfully with the customers and staff in providing training, information, and services, and establish and maintain effective working relationships; Work independently, exercise initiative within established procedural guidelines, and organize and prioritize work to meet established procedural parameters and deadlines.

Examples of Experience/Education/Training

Any combination of training, education, and/or experience which provides for the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties listed above is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:

Completion of a four (4) year degree in Computer Science, or a closely related field, and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in systems analysis, computer programming, or operations.


Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in systems analysis, computer programming, or operations.

Additional Information
Conditions of employment include :
Successfully complete a background check to include fingerprinting; Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license and satisfactory driving record; Work outside of normal business hours on occasion as needed, and on-call duty on a rotational basis as required.

The physical and sensory requirements for this classification include :
Work at a computer terminal up to approximately eight (8) hours per day/shift; Strength to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds, with or without assistance; Physical dexterity to lift, push, pull, or carry objects or equipment; Drive a County or personal vehicle to transport others or equipment.
