Chemists analyze air, water, tissue, milk, petroleum products, antifreeze, soil, cement, paint, construction materials, pesticide residue and other samples; operate sophisticated laboratory instrumentation; identify and document sample contents and contaminants; provide testimony to State boards, lawmakers and industry; and maintain records of results. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This is a Chemist 3 position with the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) located in Sparks. This position will be tasked with performing chemical analysis on pesticide formulation/use dilution samples by following SOP's and internal standard methods; performs chemical analysis on HEMP samples in a timely manner. The incumbent assists senior chemist in QA/QC residue check sample program sponsored by the EPA; analyzes spikes, blanks, duplicates, etc. as per SOP's as needed; assists chief chemist and coordinates the ISO 17025 application of Nevada Hemp program as well as serving as QA/QC program officer. The Chemist III duties include: chemical analysis of pesticide formulation/use dilution samples and hemp samples; preparing Sample Reports of Analysis; maintain quality control and quality assurance sample data; and serving as QA/QC program officer in NDA laboratory.

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry or closely related field and two years of professional experience as a chemist in a laboratory setting; OR one year of experience as a Chemist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
