Provides technical support functions for county computer applications and system users; trouble shoots problems and provides basic system maintenance functions.

 

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Provides technical assistance to staff in County departments; analyzes problems and implements solutions; provides technical support, analysis, and training in the use of computers and peripheral devices.

Performs computer trouble-shooting to isolate and diagnose system problems; analyzes personal computer and peripherals’ functionality; identifies, locates, resolves and repairs problems.

Maintains and updates computer systems; installs software upgrades, enhancements and revised functions; documents work performed.

Relocates information systems hardware as directed; provides referral to appropriate party when complex malfunctions occur; and tracks the problem until it has been resolved.

Maintains local user accounts and system security for e-mail and file shares.

Maintains an accurate report of equipment and software malfunctions; keeps the computer equipment clean and performs other preventive maintenance functions.

Configures, installs and upgrades user hardware.

Performs system backups and monitors computer environment as directed.

Monitors and resolves basic network connectivity problems.

Evaluates new hardware, software and related equipment for functionality and fit to current operating environment.

Performs telecommunication duties relating to support, maintenance, ordering and documentation.

Organizes and maintains a complete inventory of tools and equipment required by the department.

Complies with all County equipment and safety policies and procedures, and Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

Performs related duties as assigned.

 

 

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Equivalent to one year of experience analyzing, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting computer hardware, software and network devices, which includes working with various operating structures and database structures. (Additional qualifying experience can be substituted for the Educational requirement on a year-for-year basis).
  • Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree or completion of an approved certificate program in computer science, information systems technology, management information systems or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:

Requires the ability to maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of exercising sound judgment and rational thinking under varied circumstances; ability to see; ability to hear and communicate orally; exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another; requires sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as data entry or use of other office equipment or supplies; occasionally requires sufficient strength and coordination for lifting, pushing, pulling, and/or carrying the weight of computer equipment; dexterity to climb or crawl necessary to install cable in areas of close tolerance; ability to operate a motor vehicle; involves extensive VDT exposure; may require the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
