There is a requirement to perform circumcisions. No delivery attendance is required. NICU providers are available in the hospital at all times. The schedule is 7 days on/7 days off with allowance for flexibility. There are opportunities available for involvement in quality improvement, participation in an outpatient high-risk newborn follow-up clinic, and administrative activities. Learners including medical students, residents and PHM fellows rotate through the newborn nursery allowing for a spectrum of educational opportunities. Our division works closely with the TTUHSC medical school and pediatric residency program providing oversight on inpatient rotations, education in hospital medicine, and mentorship. We have a well-established, accredited PHM fellowship program with one fellow per year. We are committed to training students, residents, and fellows to be successful in their future careers and place a strong focus on education and evidence-based practices. Faculty within the division serve in a variety of roles across the medical school and hospital systems including the freestanding childrens hospital CMO, leaders of the organized medical staff, assistant dean for undergraduate medical education, director of the fourth-year pediatric student curriculum, third-year student pediatric clerkship director, and leaders in quality improvement and health information technology at our clinical sites.
