The department of Religious Studies at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member as the Bhagvan Ajitnath Endowed Professor in Jain Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The successful candidate will teach a variety of lower- and upper-level undergraduate classes, including General Education courses. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and offer generalized undergraduate courses in South Asian Religions, including Jain Studies, and specialized upper-level courses in aspects of Jain Studies. We seek candidates with a wide range of research interest in Jain Studies, including Jain religion, ethics, philosophy, history and/or culture, as well as broad knowledge of South Asian religions.
In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion.
The Bhagvan Ajitnath Endowment in Jain Studies supports this position. This Endowment will provide additional research time and support to the successful candidate, beginning at the end of the first two-year probationary period. Required Qualifications:

- A PhD in Religious Studies or equivalent related field from an accredited institution with a specialization in South Asian Religions awarded by the date of the appointment
- Potential for scholarly publications
- Ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in Religious Studies
- Ability to develop undergraduate courses in Jain Studies at lower and upper levels
- Competency to effectively teach a diverse student population
- Willingness to engage in community outreach
- Familiarity with at least one language of the Jain primary sources
- University-level teaching experience
- Experience engaging in community outreach
