Position: Assistant Professor, Fire Protection Administration & Technology
Starting Date: August, 2022
1. An earned MA/MS in fire protection administration/engineering, public administration, organizational leadership or a closely-related field from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required at the time of application.
2. Experience in fire protection/prevention, disaster planning, emergency management or related field.
1. Evidence of experience teaching undergraduate students or mentoring junior professionals.
2. Experience in management or leadership in a fire service, other public sector, or in emergency medical services.
3. Evidence of publications or presentations in the field of fire protection/prevention.
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate classes in the Fire Protection Administration and Technology program, advising students on academic and career preparation issues, developing and implementing curriculum and related assessment procedures, being productive in scholarly activities, and participating in service to the Department, College, and University. The selected candidate will be expected to be active in relevant professional organizations and foster student employment relations with hiring organizations such as the Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Salary: Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology (http://www.calstatela.edu/ecst) offers ABET-accredited BS programs in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science; a new BS program in Engineering Technology; and BS degrees in Aviation Administration, Fire Protection Administration and Technology, and Graphic Communications. The College also offers MS degrees in Computer Science, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Industrial Management. The Department of Technology is an academic unit within the College of Engineering, Computer Science and Technology. The Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Administration and Technology provides both technical and administrative skills to meet the needs of various fire services. The curriculum is developed through close consultation with representatives of all levels of the fire services from local groups to State and National committees and boards. The program helps in-service fire professionals achieve promotional opportunities and gives aspiring fire professionals a competitive edge at the entry-level.
