POSITION OVERVIEW Applications will be accepted from: All persons interested Division/ Section: Houston Airport System/Horticulture & Grounds Maintenance Workdays & Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 2pm - 10:30pm, Occasional Weekend/Holidays (Subject to change) PURPOSE OF DIVISION The purpose of the Houston Airports (HAS) Maintenance business unit is to effectively deliver self-performed, and contracted, maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The purpose of the Equipment Operation II in the Horticulture & Grounds Maintenance section of the Houston Airport System is to support the goal of "Opening Day Fresh" by prolonging the life and aesthetic beauty of airport's owned assets through effective, efficient, and proactive maintenance. The Infrastructure Maintenance business unit ensures the airport maintains its annual operating certificate by performing key maintenance functions as mandated by Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) - Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139. Implementing a robust Pavement Management Program, Manage Landside and Airside Mowing Activities. Support the eco-structure of the Airport by Managing Ditch Maintenance and Erosion Programs using Best Management Practices, and other duties as assigned. "Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required." The Equipment Operator II responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: • Inspects vehicles for required supplies, materials and equipment. • Transports materials. • Cleans and services vehicles and equipment as assigned. • Operates heavy equipment. • Maintains a safe and clean work site. • Repairs and maintains facilities, structures and equipment. • May perform a series of manual activities, to include mowing, pouring concrete, asphalt, spraying, etc. • May occasionally supervises crews. • May assists in preparing reports and forms. WORKING CONDITIONS The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fine tolerances with large equipment as an extension of the worker. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS One year of experience in the operation of plant or automotive equipment and attachments is required. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must have valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving. PREFERENCES PREFERENCES At least one year of experience in the operation of mowing and /or heavy equipment Experience with minor pavement & fence repairs. **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** GENERAL INFORMATION SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED The selection process will involve application review and/or interview.
