Outreach, Recruitment & Educational Partnerships (OREP) is responsible for outreach and recruitment of prospective domestic undergraduate students and plays a key role in enrollment planning and reporting. OREP is charged with promoting the image of the University, it's programs and uniqueness; attracting and recruiting a diverse and high achieving pool of applicants; developing relationships and collaborations with campus external and internal constituents; and, providing timely, accurate and comprehensive services to students and campus through point of inquiry and enrollment.
OREP provides dedicated quality outreach and recruitment programs and strategic communication to prospective students, schools and community organizations and the delivery of student services that support recruitment, college readiness, and persistence. Programs include domestic undergraduate outreach, out-of-state recruitment, and campus tour programs. OREP reports to the Presidential Associate for Community & Campus Partnerships & Student Experience in the Office of the President.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration and Management
- Responsible for the planning, development, implementation and direction of a comprehensive K-16 outreach and recruitment effort, including the supervision of a large staff, interns and volunteers.
- Initiates and develops recruitment strategies to increase applications to the university when necessary.
- Manages the department's recruitment and oureach budget.
- Determines policies and practices for outreach staff, monitors, evaluates and is accountable for program services in order to meet specific program goals and outcomes to include but not limited to: Explore CPP: Fall Preview Week, Poly Nights/Smart Start Saturdays, Spring Open House, Counselor In-Services and Leadership Summits, and in-house pre-admissions advising.
- Incumbent co-chairs the Poly Nights/Smart Start Saturdays, and serves on University and statewide committees and community boards.
- The incumbent is also responsible for the design, administration, coordination, and evaluation of a comprehensive yield component.
Supervision and Personnel
- Leads search process to fill vacancies and make appropriate recommendation for hire.
- Trains, supervises and evaluates professional staff and interns.
- Closely monitors staff to assure appropriate time on task.
- Implements staff professional development programs and training modules; defines and determines staff responsibilities, work priorities, work assignments, daily tasks, and short and long-range plans based upon assessment of programmatic needs; develops and implements annual administrative work plan and evaluates annual work plans for subordinate staff.
- Arranges meetings, sets schedules, monitors activities and provides feedback to staff.
- Creates a team-oriented environment characterized by a commitment to inclusiveness, collegiality, diversity, civility and mutual understanding.
Outreach and Recruitment
- Conduct visits at high schools and community colleges in local, regional, and out-of- state areas to provide current information on educational opportunities available at Cal Poly Pomona, CPP admissions procedures and entrance requirements, CPP majors and academic programs, financial assistance including merit-based aid, housing, student life, athletic programs and career opportunities.
- Represent and speak formally on behalf of CPP and the California State University system at college advisement programs.
- Arrange and make presentations to prospective students and their parents.
- Respond to questions in front of large and small audiences.
- Interact effectively with students, staff, faculty, administrators and the general public.
- Incumbent assists the Assistant Vice President in developing content for professional and student staff trainings and department goals and assessments.
- Develops, coordinates and evaluates a variety of complex recruitment projects such as: Parent/student conferences, college fairs/nights, CSU application and financial aid workshops.
- Incumbent works directly with University faculty, administrators, staff and students in outreach efforts.
- Incumbent maintains open channels of communication and strong collaborative relations.
- Frames long range plans for department initiatives to align with CSU strategic initiatives and campus divisional goals.
- Incumbent serves as administrator in charge while Assistant Vice President is away from the office.
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
- A minimum of four years of progressively responsible higher education experience and delivery of services and programs to students and external constituents. A minimum of three years leading a team of student service professionals in outreach and recruitment programs.
General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the student services area as well as in-depth knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of outreach and recruitment activities to include in-state and out-of-state recruitment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
APPOINTMENT AND SALARY
- Minimum of four years experience in outreach, recruitment, campus tours, and marketing.
- A Master's degree in a related field is preferred with four years experience and a working knowledge of the core functions in outreach, recruitment, campus tours, and event management and special programs.
- Must have a working knowledge of higher education and enrollment management issues, policies, and practices; the ability to work independently; use of good judgment; initiative and resourcefulness in planning, implementing, and assessing multiple programs; leads and motivates staff and effectively articulates complex requirements and policies related to enrollment services.
- Must be technology proficient in a variety of areas (i.e. Internet, client resource management (CRM), relational databases, Microsoft Office).
- Must have the ability to manage change and have the ability to to use technology in the development of different types of publications and project management.
