The County of Sonoma Department of Health Services is seeking dedicated, California-licensed Registered Nurses for a part-time (.7O Full-Time Equivalent) and an extra-help Staff Nurse II position in the Juvenile Institutions Health Program at Juvenile Hall and within the Special Clinical Services Unit. Located in the Juvenile Justice Center, Juvenile Hall is a locked, residential detention facility with a bed capacity of 140. The state-of-the art facility sits at the entrance of the Valley of the Moon in the beautiful hills of Mount Hood. In Juvenile Hall, a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals from Public Health and Behavioral Health provides incarcerated minors with a broad range of health services.
In addition, the Department is seeking California-licensed Registered Nurses for one extra-help Staff Nurse II position also within our Special Clinical Services Unit on our Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). This team provides dedicated Sexual Assault Exams for all adult and child victims of sexual assault in Sonoma County. Adult exams are done at Sutter Hospital and Child exams are done at The Redwood Children's Center (RCC).
Along with performing general registered nursing functions, the positions within Juvenile Hall will perform specific medical functions, including assessments and treatments. The positions must work harmoniously in a multi-cultural setting and within the security guidelines of the facility. The ideal candidates will possess:
- Some experience providing nursing care in a detention setting to an incarcerated population
- Experience providing services to incarcerated minors including immunization administration, care coordination with other providers, as well as assessments and treatments according to standardized procedures for Registered Nurses
- The ability to observe, assess, and report both physical and emotional symptoms and conditions of patients
- An aptitude for working with minors and parents/guardians sympathetically and tactfully
- The ability to work all shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends
Most qualified candidates for the Sexual Assault Response Team Position will possess the following:
Extra Help Positions
- Formal sexual assault medical training
- Considerable experience performing sexual assault exams
- Some knowledge of, or experience in, acting as an expert witness
- The desire and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary setting
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with grace under pressure
- The flexibility to work on-call as an extra-help employee
Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Intermittent, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most regular employee benefits such as: long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Intermittent, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of 1,380 hours within any twelve month consecutive period.
Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.
This recruitment is being conducted to fill one part-time (20 hours per week) position and one intermittent, extra-help position in the Department of Health Services. This employment list may also be used to fill part-time or extra-help (temporary) positions as they occur during the active status of the list. : Possession of a valid California license as a Registered Nurse.
