The Department of Kinesiology has an open tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank with primary responsibility to the Master of Science in Athletic Training Program. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual. Based on our department's needs and our student growth, multiple positions may be hired from this recruitment based on the strength of the applicant pool.

Our faculty teach collaboratively and conduct clinical research. This position will provide support in one or more of the following areas: evaluation, treatment, and/or rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions; general medical conditions; cadaver anatomy; occupational health and safety.

Our faculty are engaged in all aspects of student success such as including students in scholarly activities, advising students, supervising graduate projects/thesis, developing curriculum, serving at all levels of the university, participating in community outreach, and other activities.

Our faculty have administrative responsibilities available to assume roles of program director or clinical education coordinator.

Qualifications:

Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):
  1. An earned doctorate (Ph.D., DSc, DAT, DPT) in Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or a closely related discipline. An EdD with a master's in Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or closely related discipline will also qualify.
  2. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, for an appointment, the doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2023.

Required Experience:
  1. Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  2. Certified as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification, Inc.;
  3. Demonstrated contemporary expertise in athletic training;
  4. Evidence of clinical practice as an Athletic Trainer (can be obtained concurrently with post-professional degrees);

To be considered for the Associate level, candidates must show substantial evidence of:
  1. Successful teaching experience in the areas of Athletic Training or Sports Medicine.
  2. Scholarly activity in the areas of Athletic Training or Sports Medicine.

Preferred Experience:
  1. Experience in team teaching
  2. Administrative experience in a CAATE accredited program
  3. Experience in teaching one or more of the following areas: evaluation, treatment, and/or rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions; general medical conditions; cadaver anatomy; occupational health and safety.

About the Department:

The Department of Kinesiology has well-established graduate programs in several Kinesiology disciplines such as Sport Psychology, Exercise Science, and Sport Administration. The Master of Science in Athletic Training Program (MSAT) started in Fall 2020, replaced an undergraduate professional program that had been successful for more than three decades. The CAATE initial accreditation self-study and site visit for the MSAT was successfully completed in Spring, 2022. The Program is now fully accredited by CAATE.

Our faculty members have diverse clinical and research expertise across the lifespan, including pediatric, adolescent, and aging populations of the culturally diverse Central Valley. Faculty research initiatives are broad and collaborative with faculty from across the University (CHHS Faculty Research).

Due to our unique and diverse student population, California State University, Fresno is designated as a minority-serving institution. The department has state-of-the-art equipment to support both teaching and research, including four labs: (Kines Labs Webpage)
  1. The Human Performance laboratory is equipped with Parvo Metabolic Cart, EMG, BodPod, Biodex Isokinetic Dynamometer, and an array of research-grade treadmills and bicycles.
  2. The Hydration Exercise and Thermoregulation [HEAT] Lab is complete with a Cantrol Environmental Chamber, electronically-braked cycle ergometer, and multiple methods to measure hydration.
  3. The Sport and Exercise Psychology Lab with private client counseling space and collaborative meeting space.
  4. The Sports Medicine Athletic Rehabilitation and Training [SMART] laboratory with state-of-the-art teaching spaces, patient simulation examination room, video capture and projection capabilities, conference room with student library, and simulated athletic training clinic complete with examination and rehabilitation equipment. The program also has a human cadaver laboratory with a filtered ventilation system and an overhead dissecting camera system.

Faculty in the Department are active leaders in kinesiology and athletic training locally, regionally as well as nationally. We frequently collaborate with Physical Therapy Faculty to conduct research and service through the Central California Sports Sciences Institute housed on campus.
