Summary Under close supervision, the Recreation Aide assists in the provision of safe and quality recreational activities for the public. The position assists with facilities and field set up and clean up, pre-event and post-event organization of supplies, leading recreation activities, and monitoring the safety of the participants. Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines Currently enrolled in high school or have obtained GED; no previous work experience is required. Previous experience working with youth or in a customer service setting is preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: Techniques and methods to lead and organize games, activities, and/or sports. Safe use of a variety of sporting equipment (sports balls, tennis rackets, baseball bats, etc.). Techniques and principles of effective interpersonal communication. Basic principles of customer service. Basic first aid practices. Basic sport and game rules. Skill in: Listening and following directions and asking questions when unclear. Motivating and providing encouragement for participation in recreation programs and team sports. Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with co-workers, other City staff, volunteers, and the public. Interacting with others using tact, patience, and respect. Maintaining a punctual and reliable status. Maintaining a professional appearance. Exhibiting patience and being a strong role model to program participants. If assigned to Nature Camp Assists the Recreation Lead in preparing, planning, and leading activities such as organized games and sports, crafts, fitness, environmental, and STEM for youth 4-12 years of age. THE POSITION NON-CAREER PART TIME/SEASONAL The Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment (YPCE) Youth Division Workforce Development Unit is hiring part-time Crew Leaders to support and supervise 5-10 Youth Aides within the Landscape and Learning (L&L) workforce development program. The Crew Leader position is responsible for leading and guiding outdoor park maintenance work such as weeding, trimming trees and bushes, edging walkways, and trash removal in City parks. Additionally, a Crew Leader will manage work tools and materials, keep records of work hours, document significant events, and develop positive work habits within their crew. Each Crew Leader is assigned a vehicle to transport work equipment to and from their worksite each day along with crew members. They are responsible for providing a safe work environment for their crew daily. On a part-time basis, organize and lead on-the-job vocational training, recreation, and youth development for young people; perform various clean-up and maintenance tasks in City parks and green spaces; perform graffiti abatement on City utility poles, facilities, and structures. THE POSITION NON-CAREER PART TIME/SEASONAL The Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment (YPCE) Youth Division Workforce Development Unit is hiring part-time Crew Leaders to support and supervise 5-10 Youth Aides within the Landscape and Learning (L&L) workforce development program. Salary is negotiable based on experience: Assistant Pool Manager: $21.50 - $22.59/hour with minimum 3 seasons of experience Pool Manager: $24.33 - $24.93/hour, with minimum 5 seasons of experience The Aquatics Program The Concord Community Pool at 3501 Cowell Rd is one of the City’s most popular facilities, serving approximately 124,000 swimmers per year in our award winning learn to swim classes, our lap swim, recreational swim and water exercises programs, as well as serving as a place for many swim teams to practice. The pool is open year round, heated to a comfortable 80 degrees, and is 50 meters in length. The pool also boasts heated changing rooms and showers. What you will be doing: Under supervision, Assistant Pool Managers and Pool Managers are responsible for seasonal and year round operation of a community swimming pool, including lead supervision of pool lifeguards, swimming instructors, and other employees; the application and enforcement of rules and regulations governing the health, safety, and welfare of patrons; the overall operation and maintenance of the pool, its equipment, and facilities; the conduct and expansion of various swim instruction programs; and the determining of priority of use of the pool and its facilities. The Pool Manager is distinguished from the Assistant Pool Manager in that the Pool Manager works at a higher level of independence and participates in program scheduling, recruitment and staffing. All positions are part time, limited service, and m ust be able to work approximately 20-30 hours a week; early morning ( 5:30AM - 10:00AM) , evening and weekend shifts when required; and attend weekly in-service trainings. Salary is negotiable based on experience: Assistant Pool Manager: $21.50 - $22.59/hour with minimum 3 seasons of experience Pool Manager: $24.33 - $24.93/hour, with minimum 5 seasons of experience The Aquatics Program The Concord Community Pool at 3501 Cowell Rd is one of the City’s most popular facilities, serving approximately 124,000 swimmers per year in our award winning learn to swim classes, our lap swim, recreational swim and water exercises programs, as well as serving as a place for many swim teams to practice. The pool is open year round, heated to a comfortable 80 degrees, and is 50 meters in length. The pool also boasts heated changing rooms and showers. What you will be doing: Under supervision, Assistant Pool Managers and Pool Managers are responsible for seasonal and year round operation of a community swimming pool, including lead supervision of pool lifeguards, swimming instructors, and other employees; the application and enforcement of rules and regulations governing the health, safety, and welfare of patrons; the overall operation and maintenance of the pool, its equipment, and facilities; the conduct and expansion of various swim instruction programs; and the determining of priority of use of the pool and its facilities. The Pool Manager is distinguished from the Assistant Pool Manager in that the Pool Manager works at a higher level of independence and participates in program scheduling, recruitment and staffing. All positions are part time, limited service, and m ust be able to work approximately 20-30 hours a week; early morning ( 5:30AM - 10:00AM) , evening and weekend shifts when required; and attend weekly in-service trainings. They must also be able to successfully complete Lifeguard Training provided by the City of Concord.
