We are seeking an experienced individual to join our team as an Outreach/Admissions Counselor (Student Services Professional II) at the San Bernardino Campus. The ideal candidate in this role should be committed to diversity, have a positive attitude, be energetic and self-driven.
Under the supervision of the Director of Outreach & Student Recruitment, the Outreach/Admissions Counselors will contribute to student success by way of participation in high school and college fairs, continuous collaboration and partnership with campus and community partners, and maintain connection with prospective students. This position will be familiar with CRMs, creation of communication plans, and social media engagement. Additionally, this position serves as the liaison between prospective to student and campus resources.
Responsibilities include, but is not limited to:
- Admission Evaluation for first time and transfer applications and other applicant classes as assigned (Special Project I Population).
- All Admissions Counselors are assigned to a special duty, project or population. This position will be responsible for a caseload of students and for a special population as assigned by a Department Administrator. The responsibility to this special project includes, but are not limited to, the evaluation of application materials for members of the population, meeting with on and off campus partners or programs to assess needs and provide services, talk with individual students to determine special circumstance, gathering and presentation of data as appropriate to project.
- The Counselor is responsible for the management of the project or population and for determining how to conduct the operations of this endeavor. This position will require special projects and committee work to ensure the accurate completion of evaluations of both first-year students and transfer students.
- The incumbent will also be knowledgeable of and perform all duties in accordance with Title V, Chancellor's Office and Institutional policies and procedures. Staff member will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing transcripts and other complex records of applicants to determine eligibility requirements; including but not limited to specific course requirements and specific GPA requirements depending on the major the student has applied for to the University. Employee is expected to be accurate when reviewing documents for GPA calculations, transferrable courses, etc. and to enter admissions decisions and other pertinent information into the PeopleSoft system. Employee must have a thorough understanding of CSU requirements, possess the ability to meet goals in a timely manner and work well under pressure.
- Serves as a designated trainer for the Outreach staff on evaluations and assist in creating user guides on completion of evaluations. Maintains a broad knowledge of evaluations to assist with any questions the Outreach team may have pertaining to completing files.
- Recruitment of students to CSUSB.
- Employee will be responsible for managing community college and high school territories and the recruitment of students to CSUSB. Duties include facilitating parent and student workshops and presentations on CSUSB admissions, programs and services, attending college and career fairs, and work collaboratively to communicate, develop and maintain relationships with school district personnel and counselors to market CSUSB.
- Assist and coordinate recruitment events and programs on a day to day basis, and serve as a liaison between CSUSB and off campus constituencies. Represent CSUSB at Community College advisory meetings, annual CSU system-wide Counselor Conferences, and at national college fairs.
- Monitor, track, and research the number of prospective leads and applicants collected from each service school. Prepare, analyze and evaluate recruitment goals and initiatives, and program/event activity reports.
- Employee will meet with students on a regular basis to discuss admissions eligibility issues in relation to impacted major and eligibility guidance, provide pre-admission counseling to prospective students and customer service to students on a continuous basis in person (one on one and in group settings), on the telephone, and electronically.
- Employee will also enter inquiries of prospective students in Prospect Database.
- The staff member will demonstrate an understanding of admissions policies and procedures between the applicant, families, education professionals, the campus community and ASR.
- Employee will participate in on-campus high profile recruitment at the Palm Desert Campus and San Bernardino campus as needed. These events include but are not limited to CSUSB Preview, Coyotes Connect, Counselors' Day, and others.

- Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some evenings and weekend hours may be required.

- Ability to rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.
Education and Experience
- Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
- Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. (Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
- Experience: Equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of a competence and indicate the potential for further growth. (A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.)
Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,304 per month
