The Job JOIN OUR TEAM! The San Bernardino County Fire District
is seeking an Extra-Help Maintenance Specialist
who will assist in a variety of routine general maintenance tasks pertaining to the operation of fire stations and administrative office facilities. Maintenance Specialists
are required to perform their duties in all weather conditions, and at any work site in the North Desert Service Zone in the Victor Valley. Positions report to the North Desert Division Headquarters in Hesperia. Extra help unclassified, non-regular positions are in the Unclassified Service which serve at the discretion of the appointing authority and do not attain regular status.
These positions participate in the County's Part-time Seasonal Temporary (PST) Deferred Compensation Plan and do not earn any other benefits. These temporary positions will be employed for approximately 12 months. Successful candidates shall be considered at-will and probationary throughout the term of their employment. All new employees must adhere to the provisions of the County Special Districts and Fire Dress Code, which prohibits all visible tattoos. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Working Conditions:
Applicants must be able to: perform heavy manual labor and work outdoors in varying weather conditions; work in desert and mountainous areas, remote locations, and other locations as needed; have the ability to drive in all weather conditions; and work weekends and holidays, and respond to emergency maintenance and repair requests as needed. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and have the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend over, and crawl for extended periods in the performance of job duties for this position.Health and Physical:
Persons seeking appointment to this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties established by the San Bernardino County Fire District.Travel:
Travel throughout the County is required; a Division vehicle will be available. A valid CA driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance is required at time of appointment and must be maintained.Location:
Positions report to the North Desert Division Headquarters in Hesperia, CA. Incumbents may be required to report to other locations for work to meet department needs.Minimum Requirements Experience
: One (1) year of full-time skilled or semi-skilled experience performing maintenance and repair of buildings which includes low-voltage electrical and carpentry. Experience must be clearly detailed in the work history section of the application.Desired Qualifications
Working knowledge of all aspects of the construction maintenance and repair industry to include the following:
- Commercial roll-up doors
Knowledge of building codes related to the above construction tasks.
