The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently, there are 18 sports programs, approximately 550 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, Corporate Sales, Development, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video.
Under the direction of the Student-Athlete Development Coordinator, the Student-Athlete Development Assistant will work regularly with student-athletes of diverse backgrounds to support their personal growth, career development, and civic engagement. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide organizational support and program coordination of our comprehensive four-year student-athlete development program (Aztecs Going Pro). This position will have a direct impact on various areas for student-athlete development and academic support. This is a part-time (0.75 time-base), benefits-eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2023, with the possibility of reappointment. This appointment is for a 10/12 pay-plan position. The incumbent works 10 months per year and is paid over 12 months, with June and the holiday break (mid-December to mid-January) as the anticipated off months. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on-campus at SDSU in San Diego. Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. The candidate should have experience in working with a culturally diverse population in an academic setting and possess a working knowledge of NCAA Rules.
Experience in event planning and/or serving in an executive position within an organization is preferred.
Effective communication and strong teamwork/collaboration skills are critical.
Desire to pursue a career working in student athlete development is critical.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $2,196 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,196 - $2,686 per month. SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy
In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward, a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.
The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work.
