Position Description The City of Tacoma invites you to join our team as an IT Analyst, Senior Technical. Please note we are hiring for four separate positions: (3) Senior Systems Administrators (1) Senior Network Administrator Positions Descriptions: The City of Tacoma's Information Technology Department is establishing an eligibility list to fill multiple full-time senior technical analyst positions, including senior network administrators and a senior systems administrator. Positions 1-3: Systems Administrator Duties may include: Administration and support a multi-domain Windows enterprise environment Maintaining, sizing, installing, configuring, patching, tuning, securing, and monitoring various servers and infrastructure components Configuration Manager Administration Identity and Access Administration Group Policy Administration VMWare Administration Exchange and M365 Administration Expert knowledge of system security systems, backup, disaster recovery and related processes Use automation skills and tools Azure and Entra Administration AWS Cloud Infrastructure experience Enterprise Storage experience The server infrastructure contains both Unix/Linux and Microsoft Windows servers within virtualized environments. There is an on premise, as well as cloud-base presence. The candidate is joining a well-established team that is willing to mentor and train. Candidates should have strong technical and analytical skills, excellent technical writing skills, good communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. Position 4: Network Administrator Duties may include: Network connectivity to various City of Tacoma sites, buildings, and facilities Interagency connections to state, county, and other local government entities QoS for IP telephony and video transport on corporate network infrastructure Internet service Network provisioning and security, including firewalls, intrusion prevention, and monitoring systems Corporate network access through mobile virtual private networks Corporate and guest wireless network connectivity services Technical consulting services for back-end infrastructure design, support, and maintenance Timely response to service requests, tickets, and customer requests pertaining to network support, expansion, and improvements Ability to work well with network stakeholders and invested partners An understanding of the City of Tacoma’s network infrastructure, wireless communications, remote access, cloud infrastructure, and security implementations Technical proficiencies in data network infrastructure planning and design, working knowledge of best practices, industry standard networking protocols, routing and switching principles, OSI layers, VLANs, firewalls, and network security concepts Isolating and/or troubleshooting service degradations and/or failures relating to data networks and related systems, hardware, software and peripherals Supporting and building secure networks using Cisco routing, switching, and security technologies Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Hybrid telework and in-person working environment Availability to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as part of a stand-by rotation Long periods of sitting while working on equipment May involve lifting, pushing, or pulling equipment weighing up to 50 pounds The Principles that Guide Us: Tacoma, the City of Destiny , has a workforce of dedicated, talented employees with unique skills and perspectives. Qualifications Equivalent combination to: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field AND five or more years directly related information technology work experience.
