About the Position:
Housing and Residential Engagement provides residence hall and apartment style living for approximately 2,000 students that is safe, clean and very convenient. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Lead Custodian. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Lead Custodian provides Lead Custodial support for 17 custodians in Housing and Residential Engagement serving approximately 2,200 residents during the academic year and nearly 3,700 conference guests during the summer conference season. Leads custodial staff in maintaining a healthy and safe environment for residents, guests and staff. Provides on the job training for custodial staff to improve skills and reduce injuries. Provides scheduling and assignment of tasks. Uses initiative to problem solve daily challenges. Encourages and motivates staff by leading by example. Provides feedback and input to supervisor to direct, inform and correct behavior of residents. Maintains inventory control, equipment readiness and supplies. Assists custodial staff with timesheet management. Reviews work orders submitted by residents and staff. Complies with ongoing and updated online and in person safety training. Special projects including supporting campus partners with event setup, supporting residents, vendors, and management as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

One to two years of related custodial experience which has provided the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and has included providing on-the-job training and leadership to others. Demonstrated working knowledge of the methods, materials, chemicals, and equipment used in custodial work and of the safety and sanitation practices and measures required. Working knowledge of effective lead and supervisory practices and techniques. Ability to provide lead work direction, including training others on proper work methods and safety and providing feedback on work performance. Ability to read and write in English at a level appropriate for the duties of the position. Ability to use computers to track work orders and order supplies and materials. Ability to establish, promote, and maintain cooperative work relationships with others. Ability to analyze situations and take appropriate action.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in a large educational institution or similar environment. Previous experience leading custodians.

License/Certifications

Valid California driver's license
