$6,667.00 per month ($80,004.00 annually)

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director, Custodial Services and Waste Management, the Associate Director of Housekeeping (ADH) for Facilities Services is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of custodial programs and services to maintain University Housing and conference room facilities. This position provides leadership, direction, and management for the Custodial Services work unit with over 30 custodial and laborer staff, in addition to lead supervisory and administrative staff. Due to the seasonal nature of this operation, this position requires oversight for over 75 custodial and laborer staff during the summer period, as part of providing service to over 40 housing and conference room buildings. The position is responsible to ensure safety, quality, transparency, and customer satisfaction for housekeeping services.

Position Information

Managerial responsibilities include:

Managerial Leadership

• Provides leadership and personnel management to custodians and laborers within Facilities Services Housing.

• Develops, implements and maintains employee development, recognition and evaluation programs.

• Assist in the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of new employees in collaboration with Facilities Services, HR unit.

• Develop, implement, and refine various training modules for staff. Assure that training is systematic, consistent, and uses best practices.

• Manage and approve payroll, monitoring for appropriate scheduling and hours.

• Plan and execute work for regular operations and housing unit turns for summer.

Operational Management

• Plans and implements day-to-day, weekly, monthly and annual work plans and schedules for custodians and laborers.

• Generally, coordinates overall work plans and programs with the university community.

• Maintain frequent customer contact, and initiate routine walk-through visits, evaluating quality, and creating plans of correction as necessary.

• Coordinates setup for events on all campuses and ensures proper staffing.

• Oversee vendor relationships, negotiate and purchase inventory supplies and equipment. Maintain tracking system for costs of supplies and equipment to be used for pricing/costing purposes.

• Provide strategic planning regarding productive use of department resources.

• Responsible for establishing and maintaining internal staffing and contract resources necessary to provide day-to-day routine response and 24/7 emergency response for university programs and operating needs.

• Coordinates logistics and analyzes operations to continuously improve custodial services.

• Uses management techniques and data analysis to lead housekeeping teams. Use Work order management system to track work and analysis for operational excellence.

Business Partners

• The incumbent represents Facilities Services to the campus community, serves and participates on committees performs special tasks as assigned by the Director of Custodial Services and Waste Management.

• Position maintains a university environment that is clean and sanitary and meets the needs of the university customers. Position is responsible for providing excellent customer service to the campus community.

Perform Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Five years of progressive experience in operations and supervision of custodial functions.

• 2-3 years of management experience.

• High School Diploma.

• Demonstrated experience working/supervising in a represented (union) environment.

• Proficiency with office software programs, technology and systems including: Microsoft Access, Windows, and other computerized word processing, spreadsheets and database management programs.

• Demonstrated ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data and make accurate projections.

• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently and use judgement and discretion to act when precedents do not exist.

• Strong written, oral and interpersonal communications skills are critical to effectively interact with a diverse group of staff, customers, external business partners and vendors, and other FS personnel

• Demonstrated ability to work in an environment of demanding pressures and short deadlines requiring a high degree of mental concentration.

• Proficiency with composition of letters, memos, and reports

Preferred Qualifications

• BS degree in one of the following disciplines: business administration, public administration, organizational development or a

closely related subject area

• 5 years or more of progressive, demonstrated experience and success in a higher education housing

or other governmental/institutional environment.

• 2 years experience in custodial management in the hospitality industry.

Required/License/Certification

Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a background check.

Successful candidate must have a valid state driver's license. Position may require the use of state vehicle to interact with employees in satellite locations (Downtown Campus, Romberg-Tiburon Campus).

Fingerprinting is required for this position in compliance with Practice Directive 201.

  • While this position is administrative in nature, it requires frequent leadership work indoors/outdoors, moving of objects.
