Job Description

CPS HR Consulting seeks to hire a human resource professional to perform a variety of testing and selection-related consulting work in the public sector with a heavy focus on public safety clients (Police, Fire, Corrections, Dispatch). The incumbent will apply his or her knowledge, skills, and abilities in the design of job analysis studies; the design, development, and administration of selection tools (e.g., structured interviews, multiple-choice exams, supplemental applications); the design, development, and administration of promotional assessment centers; the design, development, and administration of practical or hands-on examinations; and the management of day-to-day project and program activities. 

The position requires independent thought and judgment and the ability to independently manage a full client load from commencement to closing. The position may also work on projects in other areas of HR within the scope of the consulting services we provide to government and non-profit entities. The position must be able to manage complex client relationships that require problem-solving, negotiation skills, and the ability to respond effectively to unexpected pressures, situations, and demands.

Job Requirements

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities would be: 


Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, I/O Psychology, or related field. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.



Must have a minimum of four (4) years of professional full-time experience performing the work outlined above (i.e., project management, conducting job analyses, exam pass point setting, exam development for selection, and developing and administering assessment centers).

Additional Information

The CPS HR Consulting offices are located in Sacramento California. However, work may be completed remotely from home or at off-site client locations. The incumbent can be located anywhere in the contiguous United States near a major airport.

The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with a willingness and ability to travel an average of 50% of the year. Travel may occur on evenings and weekends and will vary month-by-month.
