As Director for the Center for African Diaspora Sacred Music and Musicians (CADSMM) the successful candidate will advance the mission of the CADSMM: the general study of the life and work of African Diaspora musicians in the field of sacred music, with initial focus upon the musicians of Southern California; the special study of the evolution of the Spiritual within the African Diaspora musical repertoire of Southern California; and the collection, preservation and performance of this music, to be housed in the Georgia & Nolan Payton Archive of Sacred Music. The successful candidate will report to the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities in the role as the Director of CADSMM. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach courses that support the CADSMM curriculum, as well as promote innovation of the CADSMM mission into the 21 st Century. The Center will build on the existing strengths of the Department of Music, the University Archives, and the Africana Studies Department, supporting cross-unit collaboration. The Center director will serve as an ex-officio member of the CADSMM Advisory Committee.
