Anticipated Hiring Range

$6,815 to $7,533 per month ($81,780 to $90,396 annually)

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

Reports directly to Associate Provost for Institutional Analytics, the Data/Visualization Analyst will prepare and manage student, faculty, financial data to support quantitative and qualitative research and for identifying, analyzing, and presenting institutional data trends related to enrollment, retention, graduation, demographics, student outcomes and other measures. Often data are needed that are not found in our databases. The incumbent will need to write and edit queries in the Campus Solutions system to extract needed data.

Position Information

Application Design/Modification
  • Manages, develops, and maintains reports, dashboards, and visualization.
  • Design user-friendly interfaces to systems, applications, and databases
  • Recommend modifications to third party software to meet user needs

Database Analysis
  • Develops and maintains analytic databases to support quantitative and qualitative research. This includes writing and editing scripts that populate the data tables, managing updates/patches to the BI software, and collaborating with our IT office as needed. Also, determines testing needed to assure the functionality and integrity of reporting solutions, create test plans, and evaluate testing results taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Provides leadership and analytical support regarding data analysis of academic, fiscal, student, faculty, retention and graduation, strategic planning, and other data that relate to issues which affect the institution.

Project Management and User Supports
  • Manages workflows and ensures the completion of projects with shifting priorities and tight deadlines
  • Works independently, effectively manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Coordinates and provides user supports and trainings.

Minimum Qualifications

Application Design/Modification:

Design application programs to meet user requirements that optimize the use of available resources.

Examples of typical work activities include:
  • Develop program specifications and review them with the user to ensure that requirements are met;
  • Design user-friendly interfaces to systems, applications, and databases;
  • Recommend modifications to third party software to meet user needs;
  • Act as a software vendor liaison.


Database Analysis
  • Knowledge of formal data structure design, relational database design, and file structure.
  • Ability to design data structures to maximize efficiency and flexibility.
  • Ability to perform database maintenance tasks, develop access routines, and maintain dictionary.
  • Knowledge of data administration principles and data modeling concepts.
  • Ability to identify and resolve software/hardware interface problems, data requirements, and access methods.
  • Ability to use data resource and productivity tools applicable to the database management system.
  • Ability to provide database support in a multiple hardware platform and operating system environment.
  • Ability to work and communicate with users to define and meet database needs and requirements.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree preferred in computer science, management information systems or a related field and fouryears of experience working with a relational database or an equivalent combination of education and experienceto successfully perform job responsibilities.
  • Three or more years of experience in developing reports, dashboards, data visualizations and scorecards usingbusiness intelligence and visualization software (e.g., WebFOCUS)
  • Three or more years of experience with databases or information systems in progressively responsible positions.Experience with SQL a plus.
  • Experience working in a university setting preferred. Knowledge and understanding of key concepts in highereducation highly desired.
