Position Description Tacoma Public Utilities is creating an eligible list for Electrician. We are seeking experienced journey-level electrical workers to diagnose, install, repair and/or maintain electrical equipment, electrical systems and electrical control systems. The work includes varied electrician assignments involving the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment and systems. Responsibilities Include: Diagnose and repair malfunctions in electrical equipment and control systems such as boilers, chillers, motors, standby generators, air compressors, fire alarms, dryers, refrigerators, overhead doors, lighting, and other electrical devices. Troubleshoot systems which include some electronics. Change lamps, ballasts, and drivers in fluorescent, incandescent, HID and LED lighting fixtures. Install temporary power systems for special events or to aid in construction activities. Selection Process The examination process may consist of the following: Application review - Qualifying Only: Applications which meet the minimum qualifications will be reviewed and a limited number of the most qualified candidates will be invited to the Oral Examination. Selection of the most qualified candidates will be based upon those applications demonstrating the greatest breadth and depth of applicable education, experience, skills and training. Oral Exam: 100%: A panel of subject matter experts will conduct a job-related oral examination to evaluate a candidate's knowledge of: principle, practices procedures, equipment, and techniques used in water quality, monitoring, collection, distribution or maintenance; ability to interpret, analyze, apply, and enforce applicable regulations; ability to supervise, train and evaluate subordinate staff, communicate effectively, orally and in writing and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Veteran Preference Regulations Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested.
