The salary range will be from $80,000 - $100,000 per year.

This position is a Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position in the CSU, and serves at the pleasure of the President.

The CSU enjoys a generous benefits program with employer paid life insurance ($100,000), as well as health, dental, and vision insurance with the monthly premium largely paid by the CSU. Additionally, we offer a broad range of other benefits which includes dependent and health care reimbursement accounts, tuition fee waiver, 401k, 457 and 403(b) plans.

The CSU belongs to the CalPERS retirement plan in which medical and dental insurance continues in qualified retirement.

The CSU has 14 paid holidays and the position earns 24 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave per year.

About the Position

The Director of the Annual Giving & Leadership Gifts is responsible for the planning, development and execution of a comprehensive and effective program that builds a long-term base of unrestricted and restricted support for university-wide and college programs and initiatives. The Director will design a successful program that builds and sustains a donor pipeline in support of the Major Gift program. The Director will focus on increasing the number of donors, improving donor retention, and creating strategies for upgrading donors.

The Director will oversee the Annual Giving program's multi-channel approach to secure annual support (gifts up to $25,000) from alumni, friends, staff, students, and parents. The Director will plan and execute initiatives including giving days, leadership giving, young alumni and student acquisition, and faculty/staff campaigns. The Annual Giving program will play a key role in developing creative ways to steward all donors to the university annually.

Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for University Advancement, the Director also works with the members of the advancement team to achieve university and college-based fundraising, stewardship, and alumni engagement goals.

Responsibilities

Lead the strategy, planning and growth of Cal State East Bay's centralized annual giving program, focused on participation of alumni, friends, students and parents
  • Drive programs and campaigns to increase participation of alumni and friends in giving, to provide a growing base of donors to support the university and its key discretionary funds, in particular.
  • Develop plans and programs for new fundraising initiatives to support that goal (for example, day of giving, young alumni program, recurring giving).
  • Oversee and grow efforts that build a culture of philanthropy and encourage giving among students and recent alumni.
  • Serve as chief strategist for annual giving across campus. Collaborate with campus advancement teams, development officers, college Deans and other fundraisers on programs, short and long-term strategies and new initiatives.
  • Provide strategic oversight for all annual giving projects and campaigns with marketing team to develop creative concepts and detailed tactical plans.
  • Advise cross-functional team on annual giving stewardship plans.
  • Oversee the annual giving phonathon, crowdfunding and direct mail programs.
  • Supervise the Associate Director of Annual Giving.

Analyze data to inform business decisions and drive results
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data from multiple sources to drive continuously improved campaign performance.
  • Monitor industry/trend reports and benchmarking analyses to identify opportunities for growth or efficiency, and to identify viable new channels.
  • Refine segmentation strategies to identify and target donor and prospect audiences most effectively.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on results to internal and external constituencies. Prepare and deliver reports for senior campus leadership as needed.

Develop and execute Leadership Annual Giving programs to grow revenue to key discretionary funds and the major gift pipeline
  • Develop a strategic plan for engagement and effective solicitation and growth in number of leadership-level ($1,000+) donors for the university, colleges and departmental annual funds.
  • Manage a portfolio of 25-50 donors/prospects with annual goals for visitations and outcomes to secure leadership gifts ($5,000-$24,999).
  • Work with development and prospect management teams to refine leadership annual giving audiences and tactics that target managed prospects of all levels.
  • Provide messaging direction and guidance on all leadership annual giving communication.
  • Develop leadership annual giving stewardship practices and programs.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Staff the Educational Foundation Campaign/Development committee.
  • Assist with dedication or public activities related to completed projects.
  • Represent the Vice President for University Advancement and/or the division by participating on committees relating to university initiatives.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of annual giving strategies, direct response marketing, social media campaigns, and comprehensive fundraising programs.
  • Skilled in strategic planning, critical thinking, and negotiation; strong analytic aptitude as well as data analysis/interpretation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal communications, engaged listening, negotiation, and motivation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a complex calendar of solicitations by targeted constituency and fundraising strategy.
  • Ability to develop relationships with multiple constituents and solicit gifts.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population, including faculty, staff, donors and potential donors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of database systems as an end user and experience with fundraising program budgeting.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of three years' experience working in annual giving/development/fundraising or related field, preferably in higher education.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge
  • Prefer knowledge of Raiser's Edge.
