The Risk Management Department is recruiting to fill an immediate vacancy for a Liability Claims Representative Trainee who will administer liability claims from inception to resolution. Liability Claims Representatives conduct office and field investigations and research applicable laws, codes and resolutions to determine the extent of County liability. Liability Claims Representatives also prepare reports of findings and make recommendations on the settlement or denial of claims, attend settlement conferences and mediations, and monitor all court actions and attorney representation. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill the immediate vacancy and future vacancies as they occur.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Promotion: Liability Claims Representatives serve under trainee conditions and are eligible for promotion to Liability Claims Representative I ($ 52,728.00 - $72,446.40 annual salary) with successful completion of a training program and receipt of a satisfactory work progress report. Incumbents must promote within twelve (12) months or be terminated.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation.
Pre-Employment Process : Applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting and physical exam prior to appointment.
Experience - Applicants must meet one of the options below
Option 1: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience working within a public or private sector risk management department as a liability claims assistant, which included entering new claims, gathering, reviewing, and organizing claims documentation; processing and reconciling payments; completing vendor referrals for litigation and investigations; providing information to claimants, attorneys, and department representatives regarding claim procedures or claim status; and/or preparing a variety of reports, forms and correspondence.
Option 2: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience performing tort liability claims adjusting.
Substitution: Successful completion of courses taken toward an Insurance Education Association certificate may also be substituted at a rate of one class for six (6) months of experience. Classes/coursework may substitute for a maximum of 12 months of the required experience . If substituting coursework for experience, a list of coursework must be included in question #5 of the supplemental questionnaire.
