Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Athletic Academic Advisor is responsible for the athletic academic advisement of multiple athletic teams to include prospective, continuing, and former CSUN student-athletes. This encompasses guided course selection aligned with campus, academic advising best practices and NCAA regulations, graduation planning, referrals to campus resources this position will also identify academic needs, assign academic support requirements and provide individual and team academic support services and education, while collaborating heavily with athletic coaches, athletic administrators, campus advisors, campus staff and of course other members of the MAC. The incumbent is also responsible for monitoring, reviewing, and sharing NCAA Division I Academic Eligibility.
• Works closely with their supervisor or MAC staff, admissions and records, athletic administrators, athletic coaches and athletic compliance this position involves specific working knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility rules and regulations and the NCAA academic progress rate (APR) requirements.
• Works closely with athletic compliance to complete NCAA transfer evaluations and oversees specific teams as assigned.
• Communicates academic progress of assigned student-athletes with appropriate coaches, sport administrators, MAC staff, and campus administrators to include: academic course work progress tracking and student academic conduct, while identifying and meeting with students to creating an academic support plan focused on graduation and individual academic success.

Qualifications
• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a job-related field. Equivalent to two years of professional experience working directly with student-athletes in an academic setting or in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
• A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
• Professional membership in National Advising and Athletic Advising communities, (NACADA, N4A, etc.) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of Academic Advising for student-athletes; the principles of individual and group behavior; individual counseling techniques; and the ability to acquire such knowledge of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned.
• Working knowledge of NCAA Division I academic rules and regulations.
• Ability to: identify complex situations accurately and seek support for a solution; advise students individually and in groups on student-related matters.
• Interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student groups, analyze and define the problem, and with support draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals; and operates standard office equipment and software including but not limited to Oracle PeopleSoft, EAB Campus, ARMS, and Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Outlook, and Excel).

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
• The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to; medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
• Classification: 3082 / SSP II
• The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4304 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4304 - $6120 per month.
• HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include some evenings and weekends.
• TRAVEL: This position requires occasional travel.
• REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
