Operation Systems Analyst

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Serves as a key member of the ITS Infrastructure Team providing Redhat/CentOS and VMWare administration support for new and ongoing development projects. Responsible for configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting physical and virtual servers; and ongoing configuration and maintenance of monitoring systems, patching and configuration systems (using Ansible), and webservers (using Apache). Must adhere to the University's procedures and business practices including change control, disaster recovery/business continuity, security, physical access and inventory control. Perform administrative and operational support tasks on VMware, Linux OS and Windows platforms; responsible for managing and monitoring the vSAN environment including correcting critical storage issues, building recovery processes and assessing hardware for failures and performance bottlenecks; evaluate, improve, and maintain information security throughout the virtualized infrastructure; Install, configure, test and maintain system management tools, infrastructure and server plugins; proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability; monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes; maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies; write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks, such as automated provisioning storage with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS); participate in the design of information and operational support systems; provide third level support; perform operational support as required and systems maintenance in accordance with solutions standard methodologies and Change Management policies; ensure business continuity during critical production issues and ensure the problem management process is optimally followed for root cause, corrective actions, and preventative actions; consistently deliver results aligned with departmental and program goals; provide technical expertise and improve solutions and resource utilization based on industry standards and global standard methodologies; provide performance analysis and tune systems while applying software and hardware tools to identify, analyze, and diagnose sophisticated problems and factors affecting performance; identify and evaluate technology/business trends and competing products to improve the product's ability to deliver business outcomes; contribute to the design, documentation, and execution of disaster recovery activities and associated tests; drive continuous improvement in the IT infrastructure processes in alignment with regulatory and best practice requirements; deliver progress reports and presentations ensuring that management is aware of the current status, progress and future needs; design, implementation and ongoing support of on premise and cloud Infrastructure; serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for all VMware environments; create and maintain an on premise cloud, software defined data center infrastructure for both bare-metal and virtual machines with the appropriate SAN, network, or local storage configurations, using both OEM and third party tools that include virtual storage tools and services; automated provision/configure of all required resources for servers; responsible for managing end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics or a related technical field preferred. Currently holds a RHCSA certification #160-123-964 or have the ability to obtain such certification after 12 months of employment. Knowledge of internal operating system technology, computer operations and hardware, and network communications theory. Ability to use operating system languages and ability to perform systems level programming in a distributed, networked environment, use performance monitoring software and interpret results, perform preventative and remedial maintenance to operating system(s), and interface/integrate campus defined operating system(s) with software and other systems. Ability to evaluate existing and proposed systems and recommend upgrades and/or modifications. Knowledge of applications programming techniques and procedures. Understanding of job control and production procedures with an ability to troubleshoot and isolate production problems and applications code. Ability to research and survey new products and/or releases, such as productivity tools and establish and document operations procedures. Knowledge of network operating system and network architecture, configuration, and protocols and client server technologies. Knowledge of system management and security/control procedure, database design, structure development, features, operations, programming, and data access principles. Knowledge of data communication network architecture, configuration, protocols and interfaces. Knowledge of operating systems and storage capacity, including ability to perform capacity planning. Ability to identify and implement critical maintenance fixes and to isolate and correct malfunctions, including interface problems. Ability to develop and execute disaster recovery plans, establish data security standards and procedures, and ability to tune database systems and maintain database software. Ability to flex time to support maintenance and troubleshooting outside of normal business hours.

Hiring Salary: $6,667 - 8,333 per month
