CAREER DESCRIPTION COMPREHENSIVE CARE NURSE PRACTITIONER II Specialty in Medical Services In addition to performance-based merit increases, this position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following dates: Effective June 28, 2024 - 4.25% increase Effective June 27, 2025 - 4.00% increase Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization. Adult Correctional Health Services (ACHS) provides medical, dental, nursing, infection control, health education, and pharmaceutical services at a community standard of care, and provides mental health services including 24-hour emergency triage and crisis intervention, suicide prevention, treatment beds, individual and group therapy, substance use counseling, medication assessment and discharge planning to all adult inmates in the County's five (5) correctional facilities. Juvenile Health Services (JHS) provides medical, nursing, dental, and pharmaceutical services at a community standard of care for youth who reside in the County’s four residential facilities operated by County of Orange Probation (OC Probation) and Social Services Agency (SSA) Departments. THE OPPORTUNITY Under direction of the Adult CHS Administrative Nurse Practitioner and Medical Director, the Comprehensive Care Nurse Practitioner II - Medical Services general duties are as follows: Provide chronic and urgent care to patients (including suture, incision and drainage, and toenail removal) Provide case management for chronic diseases Provide Medicated Assisted Treatment to Substance Use Disorder patients Collaborate closely with the following: Onsite physicians to assess and manage difficult cases Onsite RNs to ensure appropriate levels of care delivery Mental Health providers to ensure appropriate treatment of complex patients Order and perform diagnostic tests required by Agency policy and patient needsPerform complete physical examinations, analyze data, and determine diagnosisWeekend coverage may be requiredOther work as assigned The Comprehensive Care Nurse Practitioner II - Medical Services incumbents are required to pass a comprehensive background investigation prior to offer and acceptance of employment. Position Summary: California State University Maritime Academy has an opening for a Physician and Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work on our training ship cruise from early May 6, 2024 to July 6, 2024 (dates tentative). This year's itinerary includes ports of call in Hawaii and the Far East (Japan or South Korea) which will be finalized at a later time. The Training Ship Golden Bear (TSGB) summer cruises serve as a seagoing training and educational experience for the students at Cal Maritime and several other maritime academies as part of their preparation for entering maritime related careers. About the California State University Maritime Academy: Established in 1929, California State University Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University, is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast. Located on the scenic Vallejo waterfront, the campus serves a student population of approximately 1000 undergraduates and 50 graduate students. Cal Maritime offers seven baccalaureate degrees in Business Administration, International Strategy and Security, Facilities Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Transportation, and Oceanography. The undergraduate curriculum includes licensing programs for future merchant marine, coast guard, and naval reserve officers. Cal Maritime also offers a Master of Science in Transportation and Engineering Management degree, as well as a number of extended learning programs and courses. Major Responsibilities : The sick bay team typically consists of a physician, an FNP or PA, and a counselor. Having previous ER or urgent care experience and an enjoyment of life at sea are both beneficial. Duties for the position include a scheduled workday of approx. 8am-5pm, and occasional after hours care for treatment of injuries or illness. The physician and NP/PA staff the sick bay and provide basic medical care for a crew of approximately 350 students, staff, and faculty. Other duties include routine student physicals. There are opportunities for health education programming. A private stateroom and meals are provided. Airfare to and from the departure and arrival ports is provided as needed. As this is a training ship for maritime academy students, lodging is available for the medical staff only. Required Qualifications: Physician Required Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited university. Incumbents must be clinically competent in the medical specialty applicable to their position and possess sufficient experience to independently perform the duties while on the ship. Required License and Certifications: Possess and maintain a valid US state medical license as granted by a state medical or osteopathic board.
