The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Agency is currently seeking staff to work in the Santa Ana Zoo. All positions are part-time and incumbents may work up to 19 hours per week. Work hours and schedules vary. Successful candidates must be available to work shifts during various hours of the day, evening, holidays, and weekends. Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Works with a maintenance team to complete coordinated projects.
- Performs routine janitorial functions to assist in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of Santa Ana Zoo facilities, especially of public restrooms.
- Performs trash and recycling collection and cleans/disinfects waste disposal containers.
- Removes graffiti, gum, waste, etc. from public surfaces.
- Performs physical tasks to assist with zoo preventative maintenance, including digging, lifting, carrying, painting, driving, climbing, shoveling, etc. Uses tools and equipment.
- Assists with zoo opening and closing and helps ensure overall zoo security.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess and retain a valid California Class "C" driver's license as a condition of employment. Some job-related work experience in facility maintenance and/or janitorial services is required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge and abilities listed below.
Knowledge of : basic facility maintenance procedures; minor general repairs; janitorial procedures and practices, safe use of cleaning chemicals.
Ability to : work in a public setting with people of all ages and backgrounds; lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs; understand and communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing; read and understand directions, follow instructions, and follow safety protocols; use a personal computer. Special Working Conditions: must be willing and able to work irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary, as a condition of employment. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Hmong, Korean, or Samoan is highly desirable.

PT Employees accrue paid sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every thirty (30) hours worked up to a maximum accrual of 6 days or 48 hours. Employees are eligible to use 3 days or 24 hours of accrued paid sick leave in a 12-month period.
