Summary

The Town of Apex, North Carolina (pop. 73,000) is seeking a visionary Assistant Town Manager with experience in community and economic development. The historic, charming town of Apex is a fast-growing suburb of Raleigh and is currently undergoing multiple residential, non-residential, and mixed-use development projects.

Job Description

The newly created position of a second Assistant Town Manager will establish and define the goals of the new Community Development and Neighborhood Connections division, develop and align the town’s community development strategy, and assist with the development and implementation of an affordable housing plan. In addition to the new Community Development and Neighborhood Connections division, the new Assistant Town Manager will also oversee Community and Safety, which includes Police and the 911 Communications Center; Fire; and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources. These community-facing departments are vital for developing a strong, transparent relationship with Apex residents. The Assistant Town Manager will be responsible for establishing initiatives and policies that will further engage the community and ensure that residents can participate and communicate with elected and town officials.

Job Requirements

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, or an applicable field, and a minimum of five years of experience in directing major programs of local public services, to include supervisory and management experience. Experience in community development is required. Preferred candidates will have experience in community and economic development, particularly in affordable housing. Experience with public safety is desired but not required. Candidates with director-level experience in community development, housing, or similar fields are encouraged to apply. EOE.

Special Instructions

The starting salary for this position will be $160,000-$175,000.
