Children and Family Services (CFS) is recruiting for Supervising Social Service Practitioners who organize, direct, and supervise the work of a unit of Social Service Practitioners and other staff responsible for diagnostic assessments, and develop and implement complex treatment plans and specialized service programs, which assist individuals in restoring their capacity for social functioning. Through practice and good customer service, Supervising Social Service Practitioners play a critical role in improving outcomes for children and families. The resulting list will be used to fill vacancies throughout the County as they occur.

As an alternative to the traditional benefits package, you may also be eligible to elect the Modified Benefit Option (MBO) that provides an increased base rate of pay ($1.75 above the base rate of pay) with modified benefits. Location Assignment : Location assignments are made solely at the discretion of the Director of Children and Family Services and based on department needs. Employees must be willing to accept employment and work at any CFS location including San Bernardino, Barstow, Fontana, Needles, Rancho Cucamonga, Victorville, and/or Yucca Valley. Refusal of assigned location may result in removal from the list or termination. Office locations may change due to space and department operational needs.

Shift Availability : Shift availability may change for any given location, as well as across geographic regions. Shift assignments are made solely at the discretion of the Director of Children and Family Services and based on department needs. Employees must be willing to accept ALL shifts, including mandatory overtime. The incumbents may be required to work rotating, swing, night, weekend, day, on call, and graveyard shifts, as well as holidays and weekends (which may include overtime). Refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination. Shift availability may change due to department operational needs.

Travel : Travel throughout the County is required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

Minimum Requirements

Education: A Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education -OR- a Master's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Counseling with an emphasis in marriage, family, child counseling, or a closely related field.


Experience: Two (2) years of experience equivalent to a journey-level Social Service Practitioner in San Bernardino County, performing complex social work assignments, comprehensive diagnostic assessments, in-depth clinical intervention, and treatment plans for a government social work agency . Note: Experience as a Social Worker II or Social Service Practitioner I is not considered qualifying.

Desired Qualifications

Candidates with qualifying experience in a government child welfare agency are highly preferred. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a strong customer service focus while performing in a lead or supervisory role. Completion of a supervisory development program is also desirable.
