Position Summary

Under the lead work direction of the Administrative Support Coordinator II (ASC II) and the supervision of the Department Chair, the Administrative Support Assistant II will be primarily responsible for providing general office, clerical, and secretarial support for students, faculty, and staff. The full range of work activities includes processing mail, maintaining files and electronically filing records, scheduling and arranging appointments, providing budget support, processing of correspondence and records, gathering data, preparing standard reports, and interacting with and solving problems for work unit faculty and staff. This role will have specific duties in support of discovery work around graduate program planning and scheduling of various meetings related to faculty searches and development initiatives. Provides lead work direction for Student Assistant(s).

FLSA: Non Exempt (eligible for overtime compensation under FLSA). This position is benefits-eligible

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3120-4592 per month

Hiring Range: $3120-3487 per month

Recruitment Type: Regular (probationary)

Time Base: Full-Time

Pay Plan: 12 months

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8 - 5. Partial telework schedule may be possible, at management discretion, after a training period to be determined.

Department Information

The Department of Kinesiology, through its university and community-based programs, provides a unique blending of physical, mental and emotional/social dimensions of learning. This unique blend provides our students with an opportunity to become responsible and knowledgeable individuals for addressing society's problems and enriching life.

The Department offers a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with five concentrations( Athletic Administration, Athletic Care, Athletic Coaching Education, Physical Activity and Wellness, and Physical Education Teacher Education), a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with two concentrations (Health Fitness/Strength Conditioning and Clinical Exercise & Rehabilitation), a Master of Science with two concentrations of study (Exercise Science and Movement Studies), and a Personal Trainer/Strength and Conditioning Certificate.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires fundamental written and oral communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; an ability to understand standard office procedures; an ability to operate standard office equipment; an ability to learn office technology systems; an ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; and typing and keyboard skills.

These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through completion of a high school program or its equivalent and some experience in an office environment.

Required Qualifications

Experience:
  1. Experience with providing customer service while working in a service-oriented organization and/ or position.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

2. Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices.

3. Fluency in using standard office equipment and office software packages (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite), as well as Adobe Acrobat, Outlook and Internet.

4. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively handle front line contacts.

5. Strong communication skills, including knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

6. Ability to learn, interpret independently, and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures. Able to identify deviations from applicable policies.

7. Ability to apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough and, at times, creative solutions.

8. Ability to perform standard arithmetic functions of a transactional nature, including tracking and comparing data.

9. Demonstrated competence in understanding, interpreting, and communicating procedures, policies, information, ideas, and instructions.

10. Ability to work in a team structure, prioritize and handle multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

11. Ability to frequently lift supplies up to 15 lbs. max.
