In this role, you’ll lead the Site Assessment Unit, which conducts pre-remedial investigations of potential hazardous substance sites under authority of the federal Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA, or Superfund law). The unit also conducts project management oversight of Superfund National Priority List (NPL) and sites in state cleanup programs. The position will supervise five Environmental Program Assistants/Analysts and one Environmental Program Specialist. You will supervise the unit’s work on a range of sites in various geographical and geological settings across the state. Serve as Chief of the Site Assessment Unit, supervising five Environmental Assistants/Analysts and one Environmental Scientist who conduct pre-remedial investigations and oversee the investigation and cleanup of NPL and state-lead sites under CERCLA authority. Serve as the State Project Officer for the Pre-Remedial portion of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund Consolidated Cooperative Agreement, which includes ensuring that all Pre-Remedial commitments are met and all administrative tracking and reporting requirements are completed. This includes preparing the Pre-Remedial portion of the Consolidated Cooperative Agreement Semi-Annual Report. Review and ensure the quality of all pre-remedial site assessment investigation reports and ensure site assessment decisions are consistent and defensible. CAREER DESCRIPTION DEPUTY CORONER T his recruitment is open to the public beginning Monday, November 6, 2023 for a minimum of five (5) business days, and will remain open on a continuous basis until 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time) on the day the Department's needs are met. Incumbents will be periodically rotated through assignments, shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays. POSITION/RECRUITMENT INFORMATION This recruitment is being held to establish an Open Eligible List to fill current and future Deputy Coroner vacancies until the next recruitment. THE DIVISION The Coroner Division is an investigative unit responsible for carrying out the statutory duties of the Coroner. Those duties include investigation into the circumstances surrounding all deaths falling within the Sheriff-Coroner's jurisdiction for the purpose of determining the identity of the deceased, the medical cause of death, the manner of death, and the date and time of death. Medico-legal death investigations are conducted countywide on all homicides, suicides, accidents, suspicious and unexplained deaths. Other duties include notifying the next of kin, safeguarding personal property, collection of evidence, and completion of mandatory records and documents. The Division is also proactive in the community, participating in programs geared towards preventing drunk driving and drug use; identifying consumer products causing fatal injury; domestic violence, child abuse and elder abuse; and providing educational services for medical, legal and law enforcement professionals. Other contributions to the community includecooperative relationships with non-profit organ and tissue procurement agencies to enhance the quality of life and save lives. The Division also collaborates with research organizations pursuing medical science advancements. General Duties: Conduct medico-legal death investigations of all sudden, violent, and unexpected deaths that occur within the County of Orange in order to determine the circumstances, manner, and cause of death, and the identity of decedents coming under the Sheriff-Coroner's jurisdiction; order autopsies performed by professional staff; and do other work as required. CAREER DESCRIPTION DEPUTY CORONER T his recruitment is open to the public beginning Monday, November 6, 2023 for a minimum of five (5) business days, and will remain open on a continuous basis until 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time) on the day the Department's needs are met. POSITION/RECRUITMENT INFORMATION This recruitment is being held to establish an Open Eligible List to fill current and future Deputy Coroner vacancies until the next recruitment. THE DIVISION The Coroner Division is an investigative unit responsible for carrying out the statutory duties of the Coroner. Those duties include investigation into the circumstances surrounding all deaths falling within the Sheriff-Coroner's jurisdiction for the purpose of determining the identity of the deceased, the medical cause of death, the manner of death, and the date and time of death. Medico-legal death investigations are conducted countywide on all homicides, suicides, accidents, suspicious and unexplained deaths. Other duties include notifying the next of kin, safeguarding personal property, collection of evidence, and completion of mandatory records and documents. The Division is also proactive in the community, participating in programs geared towards preventing drunk driving and drug use; identifying consumer products causing fatal injury; domestic violence, child abuse and elder abuse; and providing educational services for medical, legal and law enforcement professionals. Other contributions to the community includecooperative relationships with non-profit organ and tissue procurement agencies to enhance the quality of life and save lives. The Division also collaborates with research organizations pursuing medical science advancements. General Duties: Conduct medico-legal death investigations of all sudden, violent, and unexpected deaths that occur within the County of Orange in order to determine the circumstances, manner, and cause of death, and the identity of decedents coming under the Sheriff-Coroner's jurisdiction; order autopsies performed by professional staff; and do other work as required. PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence, building a strong research record, and authentic lab and field experiences, including developing and leading field trips. Depending on successful candidate’s background and experience, instructional assignments may include: Soil Origin and Classification (SOIL 360), Soil Fertility (SOIL 462), Soil Management and Erosion Control (SOIL 460), Soil Microbiology (SOIL 465), Soil Physics (SOIL 467), and/or Rangeland Management Principles (RRS 306), as well as the possibility to develop an upper division elective in the candidate’s area of expertise. Participation in the core courses in Rangeland Resource Science is strongly desired for future accreditation of our program by the Society for Range Management. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students. The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship, and creative activity; and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide communities, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. Probationary faculty are typically provided ongoing mentorship to be a successful member of the faculty. During the first two years of the probationary period, teaching responsibilities will be reduced by approximately one course each semester. The reduced teaching load supports the establishment of research, scholarship and/or creative activities required for retention, tenure, and promotion. We are one of four institutions in California that offers sufficient coursework for graduates to become qualified as a Soil Scientist with the federal government. Our Rangeland Resource Science major is the only range major offered in California and one of few programs that qualifies graduates for Rangeland Management Specialist with the federal government and with sufficient classes for candidates to sit for the CA Certified Rangeland Manager exam.
