Our Community Recreation Services Bureau, in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, is seeking amazing Recreation Program Leaders to assist with the WRAP After School Program. The WRAP Expanded Learning Program is a structured after-school program operated in partnership with the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD). This program is operated on LBUSD campuses and offers a balanced mixture of academic enrichment, homework assistance, and physically and emotionally healthy activities that are fundamental components of youth development. WRAP is offered free of charge to all participants. (Applicants for this position must have completed 48 or more units at an accredited college or university OR must be able to pass a LBUSD-administered math and literacy exam.) The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine is a nationally recognized and award-winning organization with 1,100 full-time/part time staff and a budget of $74 million. The Department oversees facilities and programs that reflect the needs and interests of a culturally diverse community, including: 170 parks with more than 3,200 acres devoted to open space and recreation, 27 community centers, 3 public pools, 6 miles of beaches, and 3 marinas. The Department provides free and fee-based recreational programs and leisure opportunities, both self-directed and organized, for people of all ages and cultures. Youth programs include free youth sports for ages 5 to 14 serving nearly 10,000 participants annually, summer and vacation day camps, 2,100 recreational and educational classes, sailing and aquatics instruction, teen center activities, skateboarding opportunities, and supervised afterschool and weekend activities at parks and schools. In addition, approximately 12,000 youth participate in non-Department sports leagues that utilize park facilities. This is an unclassified, non-career position. The Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC) is responsible for the development of a positive community atmosphere in the living environment conducive to student development and academic success. The RHC is responsible for implementing and carrying out the University Housing Services conduct within assigned community. The RHC will work with the Associate Director for Residential Education on higher level conduct issues. The RHC will generally serve as the first responder regarding safety, crisis, and emergency situations in the residential community. The incumbent will oversee the daily building administration, procedures, and operation of their hall. In addition, this position will serve in a variety of capacities working on projects, committees, and tasks. APPOINTMENT DATE AND ACADEMIC CALENDAR The need for part-time faculty is greatest in Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term begins in the late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term runs from the middle of January through the end of May. On rare occasions part-time faculty are needed during one of the Summer Session segments. APPOINTMENT AND SALARY All part-time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only. Classification Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per month Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $5,405 per month The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. These performance evaluations determine which lecturers will be retained for future and continued teaching assignments. And in some instances, syllabi, assignments and reading material will be reviewed by the departmental personnel committee.
