ABOUT THE POSITION The Clark County Comprehensive Planning Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Principal Planner position. Within the Department of Comprehensive Planning there are two divisions, Current Planning and Advanced Planning, which may utilize this position. Current Planning primarily reviews "discretionary" projects for conformance with Clark County's Comprehensive Master Plan and Unified Development Code (Title 30). Discretionary projects require decision by the Zoning Administrator, the Planning Commission or the Board of County Commissioners and generally include zone changes, special use permits, waivers of development standards, major subdivisions, and design reviews. The division is also responsible for providing guidance to industry professionals, property owners and the general public regarding the land use application process and matters related to the zoning code. This position primarily reviews and prepares staff reports for the Board of County Commissioners’ and the Planning Commission’s zoning agendas and attends Planning Commission meetings to present staff reports. Advanced Planning is primarily responsible for long range planning projects. This includes comprehensive master plan updates and amendments, zone changes, parks and trails planning, demographic and housing information, transportation plans, and other special projects. Certain projects involve consultants and project workgroups, which are managed by the Division and includes preparation and review of professional contracts and reports. This position works in close coordination with consultants and a variety of departments, and coordinates outreach with the general public, stakeholder groups, advisory boards, and citizen advisory councils. Assignments of the division may be presented to the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners. The Position The City of Riverside's Community and Economic Development Department is accepting applications for a limited term Senior Planner to support the Planning Division. This recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.
