The incumbent independently performs a variety of skilled preventive and general maintenance, repair, construction, and renovation work on facilities and systems, including routine maintenance, repairs from normal wear and use, and vandalism. Key Qualifications This position requires four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facility/building trade, or any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic which demonstrates the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program. Beginning proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required. Knowledge of Google Suite, computerized work control system, building automation systems; and PeopleSoft preferred. The incumbent must successfully complete a pre-placement exam and must possess and maintain a California Driver’s License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required to maintain and operate. Salary and Benefits Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $6,076 a month. This is a full time, non-exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period. ABOUT THE POSITION As the Heavy Equipment Operator for Wastewater and Waster, you will: Construct, maintain, and repair City streets, storm drains and catch basins. Skill in performing journey-level trades electrical installation and maintenance and locating and adjusting faulty or defective electrical systems and equipment. Preparing and maintaining accurate records. Working in a team environment. Application of first aid methods including artificial respiration. Ability to read, interpret, and analyze applicable federal, state, and city codes, Traffic Signal and Pole Lighting manuals, industry periodicals and electrical diagrams, schematics, blueprints, specifications and sketches. Install, inspect, maintain and repair traffic signal and pole-mounted outdoor lighting. Work at heights greater than 10 feet. Work according to prescribed safety and professional standards.
