Possess adequate vision to read written material. Possess adequate hearing. Ability to physically intervene to maintain safety. Possess physical stamina required to provide physical assistance to clients and to respond in emergency situations which may require the ability to walk, run, sit, stand and kneel, to stand or walk for an extended period of time, lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs, ability to work both indoor and outdoor in variable weather conditions. The Position The Board of Supervisors have authorized the following future salary increases: 5% on July 1, 2023 5% on July 1, 2024 5% on July 1, 2025 Bargaining Unit: Local 856 - LVN/Aide Unit The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is recruiting Psychiatric Technicians for acute inpatient psychiatric services at the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center in Martinez. Under the supervision of a staff Psychiatrist or Registered Nurse, Technicians provide psychiatric nursing care services to patients who are mentally ill, emotionally disturbed, or mentally challenged. Psychiatric Technicians are part of an interdisciplinary team which includes medical care and mental health staff who work together to develop and implement treatment and discharge plans. They assist in facilitating patient therapy in-group or family sessions, provide general and psychiatric nursing care and administer medication under medical supervision. When crises intervention services are needed, Psychiatric Technicians utilize verbal and appropriate physical techniques to ensure a safe, therapeutic environment. Typical Tasks Gives general and psychiatric nursing care Observes and records patient's condition and behavior and responses to treatment Reports significant changes or any unusual occurrences to superiors Takes and records patient's temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure Assists patients with hygiene care and helps them maintain a well groomed appearance Accompanies patients to designated areas and supervises them while engaged in individual or group activities Participates in group therapy sessions acting as co-facilitator with professional staff Provides crisis intervention services by utilizing verbal and where necessary, physical techniques to ensure a safe, therapeutic environment Administers medication under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse, orally, topically, hypodermically, and intramuscularly Aids or restrains patients to prevent injury to themselves or others Attends staff meetings and other in-service training as required Provide and promote excellence in customer service for both internal and external customers Minimum Qualifications License Required: Possession of a valid license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the State of California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners. Certificates: Possession of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association or valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate issued by the American Red Cross. Special Requirements: (A) Prior to and as a condition of employment, ability to successfully pass a Pharmacology Test administered by the County. (B) Within the first 6 months of employment, must obtain certification in Professional Assault Response Training (PART). (C) Must be available for assignment to Code 2000 by completion of probationary period. Other Requirements: A background investigation/fingerprint and/or physical exam may be required prior to the start of employment. CONVICTION HISTORY After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. DISASTER SERVICE WORKER All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law.
