Tenure-Track Faculty Position

College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology

Department of Mechanical Engineering

Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Starting Date :

August, 2024

Minimum Qualifications :

1) An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other closely related engineering discipline from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/19/2024).

2) Expertise in at least one of, but not limited to, the following areas: Dynamics, Vibrations, or Controls.

3) Evidence of relevant scholarly work (e.g., publication in a peer-reviewed journal or conference proceeding).

4) Evidence of teaching or mentoring experience.

Preferred Qualifications :

1) Research and/or industry experience in one of the following areas: Robotics/Autonomous Systems or Aerospace Systems.

2) Evidence of teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

3) Evidence of successful experience generating financial resources through grants/contracts.

4) Industry and/or post-doctoral experience.

5) Demonstrated commitment to teaching undergraduates from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds, including first-generation and non-traditional students.

Duties :

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

Salary:

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience (anticipated hiring range: $94,080 - $97,008 annually).

The College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology ( https://www.calstatela.edu/ecst ) offers ABET-accredited BS programs in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science; and BS degrees in Aviation Administration, Engineering Technology, and Fire Protection Administration and Technology. The College also offers MS degrees in Computer Science, Civil, Electrical, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial Management. The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET ( https://www.abet.org ).

Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

* A United States (US) Equivalency certification is required for earned/awarded/conferred foreign terminal degrees. The US Equivalency certification is used to validate foreign studies by an academic credential evaluation agency and is evaluated on foreign studies and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from the United States. The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Master’s, Doctorate’s, Doctor’s of Philosophy).
