Temporary Faculty Pool - Lecturer in Political Science Department Overview [ Department website ] The Department of Political Science at Fresno State is among the strongest in the California State University system. We are a dynamic and diverse department actively engaged in research and our surrounding community. Our department serves approximately 220 majors in the undergraduate program and 40 graduate students seeking master's degrees in the NASPAA-accredited public administration program. Instructors are responsible for the preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading (as appropriate) lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e. asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid). Conditional Appointment Please be advised that an appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the “Order of Work,” or the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure-line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees. Appointees will be required to demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States (Fresno State is not a sponsoring agency for Temporary Faculty positions). Compensation - Commensurate by qualifications and experience within salary range placement. The salary ranges are established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). The salary range for Temporary Faculty with a Master's degree is $4,530.00 - $6,056.00 per a month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum of the range. Actual monthly salary will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per an academic term. Anticipated Semester The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the Department. Political Science Part-Time Lecturer Pool POSITION The Division of Politics, Administration, and Justice at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Political Science Part-Time Lecturer Pool. We are seeking intelligent, highly motivated, and well-organized part-time lecturers to teach in our curriculum. We are particularly interested in faculty to teach in face to face classes. An area of particular need is experience teaching or qualifications to teach upper-division and graduate courses in comparative politics or international law. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when there are instructional needs to fill coursework offered by an academic department based on changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, and other factors that cannot be addressed with existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Minimum Qualifications: Supervisors must have a minimum of five years of experience teaching in urban P-12 settings and must be qualified by either training, experience and the possession of a valid California clear multiple single or single subject teaching credential with a bilingual authorization or equivalent and experience in the area to be supervised, or a graduate degree (master’s degree or higher in bilingual education or related areas) from an accredited university (master’s degree or higher); National Board Certification and/or a valid Administrative Services credential or equivalent with experience supervising in the bilingual/dual language settings will also be considered; Spanish or Mandarin language proficiency; Supervisors must have prior experience in mentoring, coaching and/or supervising student teachers and intern teachers in fieldwork placements for Multiple and Single Subject credential programs; Supervisors must have current knowledge of the adopted California P-12 Preconditions, Program Standards, and Teaching Performance Expectations in multiple subject and bilingual education; The ability to maintain positive relationships with school administrators, teachers, and student teachers; and Supervisors must have a strong and demonstrated commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion with the goal of improving teacher preparation and public education. Duties: Duties of part-time faculty lecturers include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Supervisors must: Make regular visits to the school site for the purpose of meeting with Teacher Candidates, Mentor Teachers; Formally observe and evaluate each student teacher a minimum of six times throughout the semester and meet with each student teacher following the observation; Complete and evaluate a variety of assessment measures documenting each student’s mastery of Teacher Performance Expectations; Observe student teachers in bilingual/dual language settings during P-12 school hours; and Use and submit electronic observation forms and attend bi-annual training for fieldwork supervision.
