Requirements

MOS Codes: H33A (Navy), 0630 (Marine Corps), 25H (Army)

Education and Experience : An Associate's Degree or higher in Telecommunications Management, Electrical Engineering and two (2) years of a radio network and equipment experience, or a High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years of a radio network and equipment experience.

Licenses and Certificates : A valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent issued by another state by the time of appointment.

Special Requirements : Applicants for positions assigned to the Department of Information Technology Services must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) finger-print based background check within the first six months from hire and maintain CJIS eligibility. CJIS requirements are related to system access and the following list of convictions and/or deferred adjudications will result in failure of the CJIS background check and disqualification and termination from employment: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, provide basic support for the public safety analog and digital radio systems. Support and maintain any other radio systems used by other departments city-wide.

Typical Duties

Install, monitor, and maintain all public safety and city-wide radio systems and equipment. Knowledgeable and able to work with DC and AC power distribution to be used in vehicles and radio equipment locations. Knowledgeable and able to create and program portable and mobile radio equipment for both public safety and city-wide users. Knowledgeable and able to work with the installations, configurations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user equipment. Knowledgeable in mobile and portable hardware, software, and peripheral devices. Be able to work with flexible hours and weekends upon request. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Perform related duties as assigned. Involves: Substitute for immediate supervisor or coworkers during temporary absences.
