This position will be located at Lewis and Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101.
  • Assistant/Associate Environmental Engineer
    • Evaluate engineering documents, including engineering reports, detailed plans and specifications, and other submittals for wastewater, stormwater, and nonpoint source projects to ensure compliance with standard engineering practices, regulatory requirements, and protection of public health and the environment.
    • Prepare approval letters, construction permits and operating permit modifications.
    • Review environmental information specific to projects and prepare environmental determinations for projects.
    • Review and evaluate engineering documents, schedules, and other project information related to financially assisted projects during construction, through project completion.
    • Conduct routine construction inspections.
    • Coordinate closely with the Financial Assistance Center team, regional planning agencies, department colleagues, including the Compliance and Enforcement team and Regional Office teams, regarding the status of projects of mutual interest.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to the regulated community, public citizens, private engineering consultants, legislators, and others regarding laws, regulations, and engineering requirements through in-person or online meetings, written communications, and presentations.
  • Participate in training and technical conferences to remain current on engineering practices and innovative treatment technologies, and effectively communicate this information and experience to other department engineers and engineering consultants.
  • Professional Environmental Engineer
    • All the duties of an Assistant/Associate Engineer above, plus:
    • Mentor and train Associate and Assistant Engineers and provide peer review of documents.
    • Become a subject matter expert for a range of topics key to a successful Clean Water State Revolving Fund program, such as technical topics or new policies, procedures, or rules, and/or particulate in department and interagency workgroups as a department representative.
    • Assist with maintaining standard operating procedures for the Financial Assistance Center's funding programs. Participate, as needed, in efficiency events and offer suggestions for improvements to streamline processes and maintain consistency throughout the program.
To be hired as a Professional Engineer, you must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri.

  • Planning and Evaluating : Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
  • Writing : Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicates information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct, brief, clear and organized manner; produces written information, which may include technical material, that is appropriate for the intended audience.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
  • Assistant Engineer - A Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program and 0-2 years relevant experience.
  • Associate Engineer - A Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program and 2-4 years of progressive relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer - Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri with at least four full years of satisfactory engineering experience, as required for licensure.
