Job Description

Health Information Technician

Fulton State Hospital is seeking a Health Information Technician for our Health Information Department (HIMD) to provide support to departments, programs, and services for patients with mental illness. HIMD is looking for individuals with strong communication skills, knowledge of ICD-10 and DSM-5 coding systems, HIPAA rules, and some understanding of statistics and computer software programs. Preference will be given to someone who is credentialed by AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) as an RHIT (Registered Health Information Technologist) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator).

NOTE: State of Missouri Typical Qualifications:

Associate degree in Health Information Technology accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Preferred Qualifications:

Two or more years of experience as a Health Information Technician I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

An Associate degree in Health Information Technology accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); and,

Two or more years of post-degree technical health information management experience in a hospital, health care organization, or a state or federal agency.

(Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician [RHIT] by the American Health Information Management Association [AHIMA] may substitute for the required education.)

(Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator [RHIA] by the American Health Information Management Association [AHIMA] may substitute for the required experience and education.)
