This is a professional position providing statewide outreach services to local and state education agencies (LEAs and SEAs), families and other stakeholders addressing the educational and transitional needs of children (birth-twenty-one years) with vision impairments including deafblindness.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver professional development and interagency collaboration activities with a focus on identification and referral of students with vision impairment including deafblindness birth through twenty-one.
  • Assist Outreach Services Coordinator in assuring that the outreach services of MSB fulfills the Deaf-Blind Census requirements of the Deaf-Blind Technical Assistance Project (Project) grant negotiated with the United States Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).
  • Coordinate and provide, as needed, onsite consultation and other technical assistance activities to families and service providers that reflect research based effective practices in supporting children with vision impairment including deafblindness.
  • Collaborate with local, state, and national agencies serving children birth through twenty-one with vision impairment including deafblindness e.g., Missouri Statewide Parent Involvement Network (MoSPIN), Office of Childhood, First Steps, Head Start, Parents as Teachers, Babies Count, Helen Keller National Center, the National Center on Deaf-Blindness, Rehabilitation Services for the Blind, and Department of Mental Health.
  • Assist in evaluating and data keeping on the performance of the Deaf-Blind Project activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of required reports to federal and state agencies.
  • Assist families in connecting with other families including family mentoring.
  • Assist the Project in developing and securing culturally diverse and family friendly materials

    Required Travel: The job requires travel to local and state programs to further Project objectives and initiatives to improve educational outcomes. Additional travel required for presenting and exhibiting at state and national conferences.
All you'll need for success:
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in the area(s) of special education, vision impairments, early intervention, multiple disabilities, or deafblindness from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two years' experience working with families and students with vision impairment including deafblindness
  • Experience developing and coordinating workshops, courses, virtual meetings and/or in-service trainings for members of educational teams.
