Building Inspector I/II

The Community Development Department is seeking to fill a Building Inspector vacancy at the I or II level (level II preferred), depending on the qualifications of the selected applicant. This position will report to the Building Official. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm but may vary with construction activity.

This position is represented by the CPEA bargaining unit and is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes family and domestic partner benefits such as medical, dental, and vision.  Retirement benefits are provided through Washington State Retirement System.  Other benefits include life insurance, paid holidays, and accrued time off.

The individual selected will conduct building inspections during all phases of construction, alteration, and repair and enforce compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR BUILDING INSPECTOR I:

• Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work in building construction, engineering or a related field
• Two years of increasingly responsible construction support experience. Building inspection or code enforcement experience in highly desirable
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid I.C.C. Certificate as a Building Inspector (Residential – B1 & Commercial – B2 Inspector) within six months of hire
• Possession of a valid driver's license 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR BUILDING INSPECTOR II:

• Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by two years of college level course work in building construction, engineering or a related field
• Two years of increasingly responsible building inspection experience
• Possession of a valid I.C.C Certificate as a Building Inspector
  (Residential – B1 & Commercial – B2 Inspector)
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid I.C.C. Certificate as a Plumbing (IAPMO) and Mechanical Inspector (Residential – M1 & Commercial – M2) within six months of hire
• Possession of a valid driver's license

Building Inspector I salary: $6346-7578/monthly 

Building Inspector II salary:$6984-8339/monthly
