EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Under general supervision, inspects major electrical projects presenting difficult, complex or unusual construction and installation problems; checks electrical permits, plans and specifications for compliance with Municipal Electrical Codes and other applicable laws; enters and updates information in land management system using a personal computer; may schedule, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of other electrical inspectors; makes periodic maintenance inspections; investigates and reports on field problems and electrical installation plans; assists in the development of code changes; conducts examinations of journey- level electricians and registered inspectors; keeps records and prepares routine and special reports; may act for the section head in his/her absence or at his/her direction; and performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

Current ICC certification as a Residential OR Commercial Electrical Inspector (proof required)*.

AND

Applicants must meet either requirement Options A, B, C OR D below:

Option A: Three years of recent full-time, paid experience equivalent to the duties performed by an Electrical Inspector or Electrical Supervisor.

OR

Option B: Four years of recent full-time, paid experience equivalent to the duties performed by a Building Inspector, Combination Building Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, or Plumbing Inspector.

OR

Option C:. Five years of recent full-time, paid experience performing the duties of a journey-level Electrician or Electrical Contractor.

OR

Option D: Six years of experience in any combination of the above items "A" through "C".

*Proof of required documents, such as degree or transcripts, must be uploaded to the online application at the time of filing. Any proofs submitted must contain either the applicant's name or other identifying characteristics on the form. Degrees must indicate the field of study and transcripts must indicate a field of study and degree conferred date. Candidates who possess degrees from colleges or universities outside the United States must attach proof of educational equivalence at the time of filing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to perform, plan and supervise the work associated with the more complex electrical inspections.
  • Ability to utilize personal computers and other related electronic devices used to enter, retrieve, and update inspection data and permit information, send and receive emails, take and upload photos.
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and overtime as required.
  • A valid driver's license and a current DMV driving record must be submitted to the hiring department at time of selection.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual skills in English/Spanish, English/Khmer, English/Tagalog is desired for some positions.

This selection procedure will be conducted using a non-competitive process. Applications are evaluated based on training, experience, education, certificates and/or licenses. There is no examination. This is a continuous eligible list, which will expire in six months but may be extended. All applicants meeting the minimum requirements to file will be placed on the eligible list. Applicants receiving Veteran's Credit will be placed on the eligible list first and then in the order in which applications were filed. Eligible lists may be established periodically.
