Job Description

TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

Under the direction of the Rockport Maintenance Shop Team Leader, this position is responsible for performing routine (journey-level) motor vehicle and marine vessel maintenance, diagnosis, and repair. Also assists in performing maintenance, repair, and fabrication of specialized fisheries sampling equipment. Assists with purchasing and report preparation. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for use of initiative and independent judgement. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Graduation from high school or GED.

Experience :

One year relevant experience in operation, maintenance and repair of vehicles and/or boats.

Licensure :

Must possess a valid class "C" driver's license.

Note: Retention of position is contingent upon maintaining the required driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Experience :

Experience in operation, repair and maintenance specific to boats, outboard motors, trailers, and related equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of welding and metal fabrication;

Knowledge of fiberglass repair;

Skill in basic vehicle operation, maintenance and repair;

Skill in basic marine vessel operation, maintenance and repair;

Skill in safe use of manual and power tools;

Skill in maintaining records of materials, supplies, time, and work performed;

Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with team members;

Skill in basic computer operations and use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook;

Skill in basic mathematics;

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions;

Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds, and work in confined spaces;

Ability to learn basic state purchasing procedures;

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, and sketches;

Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities;

Ability to prepare job cost estimates;

Ability to understand and adhere to safety policies and procedures;

Ability to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

Ability to conduct all work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Required to work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday;

Required to work overtime as necessary;

Required to climb ladders and scaffolds and work in confined spaces, such as boat engine rooms;

Required to perform work outdoors in cold and extreme heat, including on boats during occasional adverse weather conditions;

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures;

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
