ABOUT THE POSITION

There is one regular, full-time position available within the Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division of Health and Human Services. This position’s primary location will be at 3270 Kerner Blvd in San Rafael, CA. The workdays are Monday through Friday, with a flexible start time from between 8am and 9am. This position may be assigned to other Marin County locations based on business need and will require occasional travel within the county to do home visits with clients

The Mental Health Registered Nurse (MHRN) functions as the Psychiatric Nurse for Marin County’s IMPACT South team, a Full-Service Partnership Program serving adults in the county who are suffering from severe mental health issues and needing support to live their best lives. This position will also serve clients in our STAR program. The STAR (Support and Treatment After Release) Team provides an innovative local collaboration between Community Mental Health, the Sheriff's Department, other law enforcement and community agencies. It serves mental health consumers that have been arrested, usually for minor crimes, often the result of behaviors related to the symptoms of their illnesses.

In this position the Registered Nurse works in collaboration with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatrists, and community partners to serve patients and their families. The MHRN will assist providers with direct patient care by performing medication administration, point-of-care lab test, crisis intervention and patient assessments. They will assist in formulating and maintaining plans for client care. The MHRN will provide care coordination and support for our population of adult clients and may provide care coordination between behavioral health services and primary care. The MHRN will order and receive medications from pharmaceutical companies for supply of samples as well as Access to Care client meds. The MHRN will track all medications and oversee the organization and upkeep of the clinic medication room, as well as other assigned medication storage sites within our system of care. The MHRN will support clients interfacing with pharmacies and lab services. The MHRN will work independently at times, and possess the ability to interact effectively with their team, as well as pharmacy staff, case managers, residential placement providers, and other community partners.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Regular Hire 1.0 FTE (Full time) schedule will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with a flexible start time between 8:00am and 9:00am. This schedule is subject to change based on program needs.

ABOUT YOU

Our Highly Qualified Candidate:

The ideal candidate will possess the Psychiatric Nursing skills needed to function independently on the day shift, in consultation with a Psychiatrist and/or Nurse Practitioner. He or she will be able to communicate and work effectively with an interdisciplinary team, and collaborate closely with a second MHRN based at the 3270 Kerner Blvd. clinic The candidate will be comfortable working in an environment that serves moderately and severely mentally ill adult patients. Experience in conducting nursing assessments and screening for urgent or emergent medical conditions is ideal. The ideal candidate will have professional RN work experience working with mentally ill clients as well as with clients who have been incarcerated. They will have sound medical judgment in screening for substance use problems as well as triaging for urgent and emergent medical conditions that warrant more extensive medical evaluation. They will have excellent documentation skills and be comfortable documenting in an electronic health record. He or she will possess sound clinical judgment and be able to demonstrate critical thinking in rapidly changing circumstances. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of healthcare privacy law (HIPAA), especially as it relates to the care of clients in mental healthcare settings. The ideal candidate has prior work experience in an acute Behavioral Health Unit/setting as an RN working with a multi-disciplinary team. The candidate must be comfortable administering P.O. and I.M. medication, and be familiar with effects of medication, especially psychotropic medications.

One year of professional nursing experience OR successful completion of a 6 month mental health preceptorship. This experience must be in a mental health setting appropriate to the assignment.
