POSITION SUMMARY

This position requires:

Teletype and Supervisory Experience

An employee in this role oversees the 24/7 operation of the Teletype Unit. Responds to request from mobile/field law enforcement personnel and the public and provides general office support. Provides lead work responsibilities to new or less experienced Teletype Operators.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.   • Assists in planning, assigning and overseeing the work of employees engaged in performing a variety of support functions in the Police Teletype Unit
  • Trains, coaches, counsels and mentors Police Teletype Operators
  • Prepares work schedule and oversees full time staff members and part time employees
  • Operates Teletype Unit computer equipment to enter, retrieve, cancel, modify, confirm criminal histories
  • Validates, updates and modifies information already entered into NCIC/FCIC/DAVID and other systems.
  • Performs 24 hour recheck of tow/repossession entries
  • Conducts warrant checks for detectives and officers using Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) for the Police Department
  • Searches license plates and VINs, driver's licenses for PSA's, officers or detectives to ascertain if a vehicle, or tag is stolen, and was used in the commission of a felony
  • Enters missing persons, stolen vehicles, guns and articles into FCIC/NCIC
  • Searches subject Criminal History records for officers, detectives and the City Prosecutor
  • Processes requests when officers travel and will be flying armed
  • Maintains appropriate log, to include tow logs, and files in accordance with requirements of policy and departmental procedures
  • May act as FCIC Agency Coordinator (FAC) OR Alternate FAC
  • May act as Point of Contact (POC) or Alternative POC
  • Everbridge Administrator
  • Processes and submits safe watch tips
  • Performs related work as required


JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalencyThree (3) to five (5) years of experience performing teletype duties in a law enforcement environment.Possess one (1) to two (2) years of supervisory experience.Must be able to become a certified user for NCIC/FCIC computer systemSuccessfully complete a pre-polygraph interview, polygraph examination, and/or background investigation as required for employment Special Requirements:
Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine who will be required to work.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderately loud. The work entails sedentary work in an office setting. While performing duties, an employee may frequently exert light physical effort, such as standing, walking, stooping, talking, hearing, and reaching above and below shoulders. Most tasks require the use of hand and fingers dexterity, such as keyboarding and the ability to use a headset. The employee may be required on rare occasions to lift up to 10 pounds. Sometimes work is stressful when working under stringent time constraints.
