We are recruiting to fill a Programmer position to write, modify, test, debug, and document application codes using detailed specifications and standards. This position receives formal training and on-the-job instruction in conjunction with a progression of increasingly more difficult work assignments involving the flow charting, coding, debugging and documentation of application programs.

  • Demonstrates proficiency using programming languages identified by the ITS Division, to develop efficient, well-structured programs and procedures to accomplish tasks assigned to them
  • Demonstrates an ability to explore, interpret, and summarize requirements to develop well written, concise programming specifications, procedures, and functions designed to implement requested changes and/or new development
  • Follows all programming standards identified by the ITS Division
  • Maintains a clean and concise personal library on the development platform, and only keeps copies of code in their personal library that they are currently developing or modifying
  • Provides clearly written, concise, easy to understand documentation which explains complex issues, processes, procedures, changes, and proposed solutions


Minimum qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 15 semester hours in computer science or computer information systems.

Additional experience above the minimum stated may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

Preferred qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the principles of computer programming and systems analysis, design, testing and documentation
  • Working knowledge of the general operating principles and capabilities of computer hardware and software
  • Working knowledge of software reference libraries and related utility programs
  • Ability to prepare and interpret computer program documentation
  • Ability to analyze policies, procedures and operations, organize their component parts into system specifications, databases and/or programs and adapt them to an automated system
