POSITION SUMMARY

LEAD CONSTRUCTION WORKER The City of Fort Lauderdale employees possess a passion for public service demonstrated by a high degree of enthusiasm, self-reliance, and job proficiency. Performs skilled trades work in the construction, renovation, rehabilitation, and restoration of city properties and facility maintenance projects. Candidates in this role will need to work independently.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

List of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning essential duties not listed herein if such duties relate to the position.

  • Leads the work of assigned staff; delegates, reviews, and prioritizes work assignments; provides guidance and direction on more complex activities
  • Leads and performs remodeling and demolition projects for buildings and structures; develops and maintains project status
  • prepares informal quotes for materials and services;
  • Installs electrical systems, fixtures, and equipment, including power appliances, motors, generators, conduit, switches, relays, control boxes, and lighting fixtures
  • Installs piping systems, lavatories, skinks, toilets, urinals, drinking fountains, grease traps, valves, faucets and other kitchen, bathroom or toilet fixtures
  • Ensures continued operation of building and facilities systems; performs service, repair, and inspections
  • Maintains inventory and proper care of tools, materials, and equipment
  • Tracks and accounts for work completed
  • Performs related work as required


JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency or trade school completion. Five (5) plus years of construction experience, at least one (1) years of which must have been at the journeyman level. Serves as a lead worker. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida Driver's License within 30 days of hire.

Special Requirements:

Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee’s Department Head will determine who will be required to work.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

All successful applicants will be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment.
