    Duties Description

    Under the supervision of higher-level manager in the Athletics Department or the park Admin team, the Assistant Park Recreation Supervisor works in the Athletics Complex at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park. The incumbent performs the following duties: will be responsible for overseeing or teaching classes and programs within the complex or a designated complex. The selected candidate plans, conducts, and evaluates recreation programs and events; organizes recreational programs by determining community recreation needs, meeting with users and potential participants, evaluating public participation and comments, and recommending new and revised programs; photographs events for publicity and records; coordinates programs for schools and community organizations; coordinates the usage of facilities and equipment for regular programs and special events; assists community organizations in planning, scheduling, and conducting events; organizes and leads special programs; i.e. Athletics programs, basketball, baseball, volleyball, creative arts workshops, and instructional programs; assists in determining program and equipment needs by evaluating condition and usage of equipment and facilities and obtaining information about the potential interest and participation in programs; assists in supervising other permanent or seasonal staff and volunteers by monitoring time and attendance, evaluating performance, and scheduling staff; prepares reports, records, and publicity materials; and prepares and maintains event schedules. The incumbent will work closely with volunteers, the community, and vendors to assure NYS Parks’ mission is always met.

    • Responsible for obtaining and contacting various vendors to obtain quotes as needed and as defined by the agency’s purchasing guidelines.
    • Creates an excel tracking database of all orders placed within each fiscal year for review and procurement control.
    • Reviews, prepares, and logs all complex and instructor contracts to insure timely payment and submission to the Complex Managers for review.
    • Assists with determining the needs of the various complex: purchasing materials, equipment, and supplementary contractor services for required maintenance and repair of buildings, mechanical systems, fixed equipment, and grounds.
    • Completes necessary purchasing requests and prepares and/or compiles any required supporting documentation.
    • Makes recommendations to higher level management for policies, procedures, training, and facility improvements to enhance the customer experience and promote customer satisfaction.
    • Ensures that all Agency, Regional and Park standards for service delivery, customer service and employee conduct and performance are consistently met. Sets standards and assigns tasks based on the daily operational needs of the park. Works closely with volunteers, the community, and vendors to assure NYS Parks’ mission is always met.
    • Participates in recruitment, training programs and the setup and breakdown of classes and programs as needed.
    • Participates in various volunteer & committees’ activities within the NYC region: Seasonal Training, EAP, Health & Safety Initiatives, obtains CPR / AED certifications and any other required trainings as designated.
    • Covers scheduled Officer of the Day shifts and inspects cleaning and maintenance tasks performed by staff.
    • May also serve as shift supervisor in another complex and/or for all programs and operations.
    • Carries out other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Two (2) years of full-time experience in an organized recreation program, one (1) year of which must have been supervisory.

    *If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience

    Additional Comments

    OPERATING NEEDS:
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
    • This position is 40 hours per week; weekend, holiday, and evening work are required as operational needs arise.
    • Must be well organized and creative.
    • Must have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and Outlook).

    • Candidate is expected to periodically support the New York City Region’s park and operational needs, including special assignments at other parks and emergency management tasks as needed.

    DOWNSTATE ADJUSTMENT: $3,400
